Discussion: Pelosi: Impeaching Trump Is 'Not Someplace' I Think Dems Should Go

Democrats are weak, effete pussies not up to this fight.

What Republicans will the next Dem President name to his/her cabinet I wonder?

The unstated piece here is that she doesn’t want the mid-terms to turn into a presidential election with her name on the ballot. The more Democrats can run for the house on their own terms and not be tied to Pelosi, the better, and this statement is line with making that happen.

Nothing new here. She’s been saying the same thing for months.

FYVM, Nancy Pelosi.

Consider what Donnie Two-scoops has done:

  1. He has used his office for personal gain;
  2. He is threatening to start a war;
  3. He appears to be colluding with a foreign power to his benefit and at the expense of the nation;
  4. He has failed to see that the laws are faithfully applied;
  5. He has abused the power of his office to obstruct investigations into the above.

If those things are not High Crimes and Misdemeanors, nothing is.

I’m not saying you should shout from the rooftops, “Elect us and we’ll impeach the son-of-a-bitch.” I am saying you should not rule it out, and you’re saying, “Absent new facts, we won’t impeach him.”

The Democratic Party is the substitute teacher…do whatever the fuck you want. No consequences.

Weak. Effete. Pussies.

Good job Nancy. Let’s enter the midterms with Trump’s failings front-and-center, rather than impeachment and Nancy “Scary Liberal” Pelosi sucking up the air. If we actually get out and vote, we will have much stronger positions in the House and Senate. THEN, and only then, do we start working on impeachment.

You can’t really argue with that framing of the issue. However, if Dems win the House and Mueller issues the damning report we all expect him to, I’m certain Nancy will be on board with impeachment.

Nancy Pelosi is playing the long game here. She will jump on board at the appropriate time and place, but quite rightly doesn’t want to place focus on an issue that would give cause to the GOP to rally in defense of Trump.

Let the evidence mount, and then when it is overwhelmingly favorable to make the move, charge ahead.

My bet is that the GOP establishment will force Trump out themselves when they see that it is the only way to prevent complete disaster.

I agree with your point that the Rs would turn the 2018 house elections into a Pelosi for President election. HOWEVER, the simple solution is to ensure that Nancy is NOT the speaker of the house. Perhaps she could step down now as minority leader and let someone more capable take over. She is over-ripe at this point, and while she may still want to become speaker again, I would hope we would see someone else.

Not months. Years. Since the GWB days.

Atrios hit the nail on the head a few days ago. Dems have this notion that there is a third neutral party - the guy in the sky, the press, the media, or what have you - that will reward them for playing nice. And they keep on losing the elections. (Don’t tell me that Hillary won more votes. Being self satisfied with symbolic victories is another trait of Dems that is a huge problem.)

Especially after Trump, they better wake up to the fact that there are no boundaries, and there is no real consequence of fighting by whatever means necessary. Angry and loud shouting and being made fun of by Hannity and Rush and Coulter et. al should be something that they should be able to ignore.

This has been a consistent thing of not offering the Republican electorate something to rally around. She will impeach Trump in a red hot second the instant she has the votes. At least some folks here understand how Republicans hear the words “Nancy Pelosi.” You can bet Nancy Pelosi does. Red hot second. This sort of soothing “Impeach? Moi? Heaven forfend” stuff has nothing to do with it.

There’s a LONG game here that needs to be played, she’s a toxic chemical that works every time for the Republicants. She should step back and let someone else lead so the House and Senate Rs can’t effectively use her as a weapon.

Except that’s precisely what all the ads/talking points are going to say anyway. The Commie GOP always makes ads tying whatever candidate to her.

She should step back and let someone else lead…

But won’t accomplish anything. Again, they will use her name irregardless of who is doing the talking. GOPers are into total war, while Dems insist there are rules of engagement.

Because it wouldn’t occur to them to demonize the next person to come along?

Yeah, because being the anti-Trump party worked so well during the presidential election we definitely don’t need to change strategies for the mid -terms.

My bet is that the GOP establishment will force Trump out themselves when they see that it is the only way to prevent complete disaster.

Yeah, if they see the writing on the wall early in the new year, with a looming electoral blowout shaping up in their internal polling, then they may figure that dumping Donnie could get them a do-over.

OTOH, Donnie’s Dummies are a pretty motivated lot, and seem to have the Old Guard by the short hairs, so maybe they’ll just rely on the Democrats snatching Defeat from the jaws of Victory again. Hang on, we’ve got Donna Brazile on line 1, let’s see what she has to say!

So far Trump has been very ineffective, let’s keep it that way. Mueller will give us the excuse, or not, but he is the best game in town.

She is playing possum. Mueller will get the goods, THEN they can “go there”.

That’s what she said. She just doesn’t want to be Scary San Francisco Gay Hippie Constitution Destroying Impeachment Nancy but have her and other Democrats run on the issues. She’s always been a political realist.
