Discussion: PayPal Nixes Plan For Charlotte Hub In Protest Of New Anti-Gay Law

“State Rep. Dan Bishop ®, one of the sponsor’s of the new law, blamed PayPal’s decision to pull out of Charlotte on the city’s mayor, Jennifer Roberts, for pushing the city’s the non-discrimination ordinance…”
Yes, how dare she make us publicly display our ignorance and bigotry.

Keep losing NC.

Seriously, y’all might as well face reality.

"When I cautioned Mayor Roberts in January not to drive our community into this turmoil, this is the kind of thing I recognized would be a possibility,”

“If they would just stay in their place, we wouldn’t have this problem” he vomited.

PayPal could always go to South Carolina.
Ooops, never mind…

Good for PayPal. Now the NBA should follow through on its threats to move the 2017 All Star game from the state. These companies have to voice their displeasure loudly and hit these right-wing yokels where it hurts - in the pocketbook. Clearly just the concept of doing the right thing or being a decent human being doesn’t sway them, but MONEY does.

State Rep. Dan Bishop ® is a moron by word and deed.

Does Bishop comprehend how stupid his statement is? If there was not a city ordinance to ensure that all citizens in NC were treated equality, the the entire State legislature knee-jerked a H8 ful piece of legislation, that will end up costing the State (not just the city) milllions in court costs ( which is actually tax payer money) along with all the lost revenue to people who will pull out deals ( movie companies / conferences etc) - goodness is he stupid.

He is a Republican state legislator. It is a feature, not a bug. Still and all, it is difficult to comprehend the level of stupidity required to make such a statement.

In the immortal words of Samuel L Jackson, I ask Senator Bishop this question, “English, motherfucker, do you speak it?”

Because Paypal clearly cites your bill as the reason for North Carolina losing out on 400 permanent jobs, plus however many construction jobs would be involved in creating the operations center. It isn’t because of the mayor of Charlotte being humane, it’s entirely due to your bigotry and hatred that this project, so recently announced, will not be happening.

so according to this rocket scientist, black folks were to blame for lynchings, because if they hadn’t been walking around freely, they wouldn’t have been lynched. i mean, if black folks had simple heeded the warning not to walk around freely or even be born, they wouldn’t have had to be lynched…

and rape! i mean, if the women had just stayed home, they wouldn’t have had to be raped.

Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
Bring on the pain.
NC’s Governor and legislature deserve no less.

Unfortunately, it’ll be a cold day in hell before they know what hit them…They’re that dense.

This is one of the few times I get to say, “Capitalism, ain’t it grand?”

It’s not hard to see how State Rep. Dan Bishop’s ludicrous attempt at blaming this on the Mayor of Charlotte came from the same mind that thought this bill a good idea. The PayPal guy is no dolt. He made it clear what motivated his decision. I hope there’s a lot more decisions like it. It feels good to know there’s a lot of folks out there that don’t agree with the “New Bigotry” thing and are willing to fight it.

I’m pleased to say that our mayor was at the front of the movement to not do business in NC

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff [San Francisco], who has fought state-level anti-LGBT laws across the country, has said he will enlist the help of the CEO of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America in an effort to overturn the law.

Want to make it hurt? Get NASCAR to move.

And don’t forget North Carolina’s immoral, oppressive, Jim Crow voter suppression laws. Screw that retrograde state.

Frenzies, turmoil and air strikes, oh my. The mayor’s out of control.

Exactly the kind of corporate leadership required if we are to once and for all ride our nation of the scourge of bigotry.

Talk is cheap, but actions speak. Where are you Bank of America?

Has NASCAR shown any deference to LGBT issues? I’m asking honestly, I can’t recall them doing so and their customer base does not seem to reflect such leanings.
