Discussion: Paul Ryan's Latest Showdown With the Freedom Caucus Is All About Guns

Is anyone surprised the FreakDumb Caucus supports arming terrorists?

We stand ready to assist in that process to best address the greatest threats posed to the homeland," the Freedom Caucus said in a released statement Wednesday.

That just sounds creepy to me.

They should spare all of us the hearings, they already have their answers to that question:

Black and brown

There, that's settled.

It’s a shame that we’ve allowed the American Taliban to gain so much power.

I undestand your feelings in the matter; it’s the ā€œwe’veā€ I take issue with. I didn’t vote for any of these dilettantes, know-nothings, and miscreants.

ā€œThe last thing we are going to do is rush something to the floor that we don’t have right.ā€

At last an explanation for why the House hasn’t accomplished diddly-squat since 2010 (apart from repeatedly voting to repeal Obamacare, that is).

so now ryan knows exactly what it’s like to be screwed red white and phuck youed…by his own party … the freedumass caucus…atleast for once it’s not the American people who are gonna be sore ass wise in the morning

Awww, misleading headline. I was looking for an OK Corral shoot-out.

well if maybe next time we have
no1 someone to vote for…a true progressive dem …not a republicon lite asshat someone who’s to scared to fight for whats rite…or being called mean names by republicons
no 2 register and show up to VOTE along with every one else ya can get registered and get to the polls

Well, I’m sure Democrats will get a lot of mileage out of this when attacking these pricks in the upcoming election.

Right?

But did you rise up in bloody, armed rebellion like we’ve been told the Founders wanted if things happened that you don’t like?

Huh?

Well then…

So while Ryan is bloviating on and on about investigating the Dem sit-in, bringing Comey up for a hearing, defending the Iraq war…he’s got an insurrection in his own camp.

The ā€œwise manā€ of Washington is only wise to Washington insiders/media. The emperor hath no clothes, I dare say.

I’m convinced that we need to overhaul the voting process. If online voting is too scary for some reason, then it ought to be mail-only a la Oregon, for every state.

So let me get this right? The party of waterboarding, tasering and shoot-on-sight doesn’t want to pass a bill to protect the US because the right ā€œprocessā€ wasn’t followed?

It should. It’s language designed to carry a veiled threat to anyone who ā€˜ain’t from here’.

Sit-in! Sit-in! Sit-in!
I know he has too much dignity to ever do this, but I really wish Rep. John Lewis would kick Paul Ryan right in his pea-sized balls.

If Ryan wants to have any actual power in the House, he needs to break these guys, and he needs to break them hard. If he keeps letting them call the tune, he’s gonna quickly be seen as nothing more than a marionette, dancing on his strings to no real effect - exactly the trap Boehner resigned to escape.

He should bring the bill. He should bring the bill with a title of ā€˜Keep Guns Away From Terrorists Bill’. Let the Freedom Caucus go on the record voting against it. Sure, it might cost the Republicans some seats, but it’ll let at least some of his members get some cover by voting for the bill… and worst case… it’s 2 years. 2 years of being out of power to remind his own party that unity and getting things done are more effective ways to hold on to power than bleating like little bitches and getting pushed aside by history. Or 2 years of being a figurehead, and David Brat’s bitch - if they even let him keep the job.

And if the Freedom Caucus tries using procedural moves to block things like this, then Ryan should do the truly unthinkable: he should have himself a sit-down w/John Lewis.

On the floor of the House.

This would never be necessary. The Speaker of the House has powers like unto a god in that body. The rules committee says how things run and he selects every single Republican member of it. He doesn’t have to allow 2 seconds of debate and can pass this on a voice vote of voices only he can hear, if he so desires.

Necessary for him to move legislation? No. Necessary to send a message to the Freedom Caucus not to fuck with him? Well…
