Discussion for article #243388

Mental illness = out of touch with reality!

Hmm… seems that there’s another ā€œcommon themeā€ in these mass shootings, but I just can’t seem to put my (trigger) finger on it…

As much as I agree that more needs to be done in shoring up support (physical and financial) for the treatment of mental illness, I don’t want that to become sole focal point of the Rethugs. They have no problem pointing to the crazy while denying they created the crazy.

The speaker also said he opposed using the No-Fly List as a measure for restricting gun purchases, saying many people are put on the list arbitrarily or by ā€œmistake.ā€

okay, there are people on the no-fly list who are on there by mistake.

so for these people:

(1) not allowed to fly to chicago for wedding: OKAY
(2) not allowed to purchase a god damned arsenal: NOT OKAY

those priorities aren’t fucked up at all. not one bit.

If Paulie had just ended his version of thoughts and prayers at ā€œmental health issuesā€, we might be fooled into thinking Congress give a shit. But no. He’s on television so he must give his right wing nuts what they want so he has to include ā€œterrorist-inspiredā€ and remind of us opposition to restricting gun purchases. If Boner were still on the job he would cry for a moment to show he cared.

Another bill that will be loaded down with crap, just like they did with the budget bill that needs to be passed in the next week or so. The fright-wingers in the House will stuff it full of things that will cause the Democrats to reject it.

While I applaud more funding for mental health, make no mistake, it’s to avoid dealing with the elephant in the room-easy access to guns for mass destruction.

Because anything directly dealing with actual gun control is totally anathema to this asshole in light on ongoing gun violence.

How much you wanna bet he sends this idea back to committee where any potential legislation just sits there and is never voted out or he promises an actual vote for sometime after this legislative session and then coincidentally finds a way to renege…because there’s only a few days left this year in the legislative calendar, what with the holidays, lawmakers’ vacation plans and all…

All sorts of people should not able to buy guns and whatever list there will be will have some errors on it. The No fly list does and people fix that. Seems like inconviniencing a few people is better than not, as they could get it sorted out if they should not be on there and get a gun.

I was hoping this was some sort of reform to make mental healthcare more accessible and putting more resources in that direction. I do not know that there is any cause to think that all these mass shooters have mental illness but some do. Seems like the best thing to do for everyone is make sure care is as close by and affordable as possible. Maybe if the doctor thinks that a patient is a threat to themselves and others they should be restricted but doctors would hate to do that.

Ironically, the GOP is paranoid about the wrong people getting into the country but not their ability to get weapons easily. Seems both of those should be addressed in some way to restrict access to the wrong people at every chance. Some will slip through but it would save more than naything.

I found that part of his response truly shocking. (not shocked that he will stand in the way of any restrictions, but that they would say it out loud).

So instead of fixing errors in the no-fly list, we need to make sure that even those who are legitimately on them have access to assault rifles and other firearms.

What a dumb fuck.

The crazy is their base. If they were serious about this–and they’re not–much of their base would have their guns taken away. Let’s be real here: probably 90% of Breitbart posters aren’t fit to own a gun. And they are not-so-coincidentally the most vocal proponents of the 2nd amendment and government conspiracies to take their guns away.

Republicans CAN’T take mental health seriously. But what they can do is pose behind some ineffectual mental health bill that does nothing to stop mass murders.

He has a beard – looks so grown up now!

And leaving errors as they are and not giving a damn, he apparently thinks boarding should be restricted though some people are on the list by mistake, but gun purchases shouldn’t be restricted because some people are on the list by mistake.

I’m seriously at a loss for words. Their brain chemicals must be severely fucked up.

Oh Paul! Ever hear the phrase, ā€˜Physician heal thyself.’ ? If the bill passes, use it ASAP, you zombie-eyed lightweight rat-bastard government leech.

Obama probably made him grow that Muslim beard! Damn Obama!

Multiple dead bodies. We should make it illegal to die while within 150 feet of two or more other homicide victims who died within the past 90 minutes.

(Head in hands)
Paul, not everyone who does a mass shooting is a terrorist or insane. Why not pass a bill that makes a gun license mandatory and ammo hideously expensive? And why do we let people we KNOW are members of death cults like alQaida and ISIS legally buy guns? And if that contravenes the 2nd amendment, lets change it.
