Discussion for article #247474
He’d be crazy to accept the nomination when he did not run for it. Can you imagine the Trump crowd’s or Cruz crowd’s reaction, after all the effort they put into the primary races, to dumping them and appointing this spoiled political brat ?
This could be read either way-that he’s ruling himself out or that he’s playing the same coy game he played gaining the Speakership: refuse, get a sweeter offer, refuse again. Repeat this until the pols are beside themselves and offering everything w/o strings, then magnanimously accept because, you know patriotism.
It beats working.
Spokesperson adds:
He would consider accepting the nomination if he gets weekends off to spend time with his family.
There’s no downside to saying this. It doesn’t preclude him from accepting the nomination in July and he gets to look honorable in the meantime. And yes, “look honorable” should be in quotation marks.
My take is he’s playing the same coy game. Time will tell.
It’s called “political foreplay”
Look at me! Look at ME! LOOK AT ME!
The answer may be in his past behavior.
1- “I am only interested in running for re-election to Congress”, two days later accepts Mitt’s offer to be his VP.
2- “I have no interest in being the Speaker of the House”, two days later he takes the position.
Ryan finds himself in good company with other Wisconsin politicians.
1- Scott Walker, when pointedly asked while running for re-election: “I don’t want to run for any other office. I want to be the Governor”. Two days after the election he starts campaigning for POTUS
2- Then of course there is always Reince Priebus.
