Your epitaph will read:
Town Halls? what town halls?
democratic plants indeed
Ryan noted that some members of the Freedom Caucus have already voted for the bill in committee, and said that additions to the bill, like the ability for governorâs to impose work requirements on some Medicaid recipients, had wooed additional conservative members.
And the WORSE the bill gets due to the teabaggers venality, the more likely it dies OR eventually dies when it gets to the Senate. Mission not accomplished.
Republicans are especially well suited to inflicting pain and misery on the populace. Why in the hell theyâre having such difficulties enacting a fresh round of hair shirt treatments is puzzling.
Itâs the memory of those very town halls thatâs giving some House members second thoughts. Thereâs no way we can retake the Senate but some liberals seem to think that Dems can win some House seats in â18 along with governorsâ mansions in certain states.
The touted unanimity Democrats claim in the Senate in opposition to the AHCA is likely shakier than presented. Joe Manchin for one is registered in the wrong party for all intents and purposes. Claire McCaskill and Heidi Heitkamp may be looking more at their next election than at national policy battles. Donât be surprised if a handful of Dem defections push this through in the Senate.
Hypocrisy is forged in ironic iron today.
This comes down to it for the Freedom cockelsâŚ
Will they abandon their vague notions of fiscal restraint based on 19th century robber barron benefits, and join the recalcitrant right in their anti-progress hatefest?
Most of us know the answer. Intense hate towards any perceived progress in social justice, especially fiscal equity, is really the root of their political instinct. Fiscal conservatism was just another convenient label that rang nice in the amygdalaâŚ
What is most disgusting is just how transparent their shift will be. Just more proof their only real conviction is hate.
âIf senators can make improvements to this bill, without jeopardizing what we call the Byrd Rule, meaning a filibuster, thatâs great. We want them to improve this bill if they can,â Ryan told Hannity.
Will no one rid me of this meddlesome bill?
So Eddie Munster may sneak this through the House, only to find an actual wall in the Senate, and find that karma is an elderly bitch with a per-existing condition just in time for the 2018 mid-termsâŚ
Funny how fast things changed from âThis is the bill, we have to pass it as isâ to open season for any amendments that might get enough votes.
you say it as if itâs something to be proud of Pauli BoiâŚ
I am not particularly surprised. It was quite clear that Ryan was going to have to move the bill in one direction or the other (that was actually one of its biggest criticismsâŚit was just a hodge podge of crap with no ideological direction and as such, nobody supported it from either side). And of course Ryan took the right leaning pathâŚits where his heart is and he is more concerned about the Freedom Caucus folks making his life a living hell.
The scuttlebutt from the FC folks last night however was he didnât change it enough (weâve heard that song before) and they still wonât pass itâŚand of course, by making this right turn, he lost some more members of the âcoverageâ caucus, while ensuring its deader than dead in the Senate.
The provision allowing insurance companies to charge 20% if people drop insurance for 60 days, will almost certainly run afoul of the Byrd Rule. And without any penalty/mandateâŚtheir simply is workable model for insurance companies. The CBO will have to run another analysis, and that one will make the 24 million losing their insurance analysis look like a day in the park. The premium rate hikes that will be necessary to cover pre-existing conditions with no requirement to actually get insurance from younger/healthier people will drive millions from even employer based insurance plans.
I am standing by my earlier skepticism; this doesnât get out of the House, let alone the Senate.
Why do I have this uneasy feeling this is going to be another âMedicare part Dâ fiasco where they torture the votes out of members by browbeating them and hold them for hours until they screamed âUncle!â?
Manchin seems to be a weird cat, but it would be dumb for any Democrat to support the bill. Republicans WILL use the vote against them; they will blame all the bad stuff about Trumpcare on the Democrats, and such votes would, not without reason, erode the support of Democratic voters. Voting for Trumpcare is a suckers game.
Iâve spoken with a lot of Freedom caucus member who are voting for it," Ryan told Fox Newsâ Sean Hannity
Define âa lotâ, Ryan. There are 42 members of the house freedumb caucus so whatâs the count?
âA lotâ of people in my home think Iâm the smartest person living here. However, âa lotâ of people in my home think that theyâre the smartest person.
There are 2 people living in our homeâŚ
It seems the combination of Trumpâs insanity and âuseful idiotâ status for the Republican Congress may result in almost every single piece of legislation coming out of committees being odious dog turds on the pavement in the eyes of Democratic voters. Both houses of Congress, the Presidency and SCOTUS in their control hardly seems a paradigm ripe for Republicans to feel the need to cater to Dem concerns, either those of the Dem reps or their constituents. Do Dems spend four years taking the position every yay vote on a Republican initiative is participating in a suckerâs game? How long can leadership dictate to the caucus siding with the GOP on anything is a bad decision Senators and Representative are best loathe to do?
Isnât this how swamps are built, not drained?
GOP leaders pile on sweeteners to sell Obamacare repeal
The revisions are part of a last-ditch effort to get the measure passed.
Itâs so hard to read. I could see this passing the House by the slimmest of margins, but then I could also see him halting the vote when itâs clear it wonât make it over the line. More than anything, though, I just donât see the point of this exercise. How can we have a Speaker of the House whoâs equal parts stubborn and clueless, but also incredibly weak?
You are certainly right about the Byrd rule. I hope you are also right about the bill not getting out of the House. But it seems to me - I hope I am wrong - that the DNC is âabsent without leaveâ on all this. Why are they not up with ads and social media on this bill? Why are they not up with ânews reportsâ from every nursing home in the gettable Republican districts? Where are the ads with hospital administrators and nurses about the economic devastation to their communities? Why have they not brought back Harry and Louise? Calling Tom Perez and Congressman Ellison. Where the hell are you? What the hell are you waiting for?
