Presumably the subsidies will have to be repaid in the states using the Federal exchange. That will make the GOPers real popular.

Sen. Robert Taft was extremely conservative–well to the right of Eisenhower, with whom he contested the Republican nomination in 1952. But he sponsored legislation for public housing, because he came to understand the terrible conditions in which people were living. He was a lot more humane than today’s Republicans, who are willing to sacrifice the well-being of millions in order to advance their twisted ideology.

Ain’t that the truth. I’m hopeful that if the SC does invalidate the ACA, which I bet the won’t, they at least temper it in some way to protect all the people that would potentially lose access to healthcare. These heartless thugs (long gone are the days of “compassionate conservative”, as if that oxymoron was ever a real thing) are clamoring for increasing the overall suffering in our country. It truly disgusts me.

This is easy for him to say now. Let’s see what tune he is playing when 10 million people are paying hundreds a month because congress won’t pass a one sentence fix that they could write and vote on in an hour.

He probably thinks people won’t notice. He probably thinks they’ll blame democrats for the failure to act. He is probably going to wondering why he ever deluded himself like that later.

I’m sure there are a couple of “true believes”, the Steve King types that want these subsidies invalidated, but I would think most republicans are secretly praying the SCOTUS does not throw out the subsidies. If they do, then republicans have to chose between their rabid base that they have stoked relentlessly the last six years, or the 10 million + that will lose subsidies and possibly have to pay back…that is a loser anyway they slice it…this is all rhetoric on their side right now…which is easy to do when you dont have a real threat yet.
