I actually agree with one of his thoughts here. That this stuff should be worked out much sooner. Although it would still wait until the last minute given that a budget that makes conservatives happy would not be ok with the Dems in the House or the WH.
Ah, the eloquence! The Churchillian loftiness of thought and expression! I can just hear old Winston now–
“This Blitz stinks!”
Well, sure. He can say that. Now. Talk to me in two years, blue eyes.
Republican Budget Process:
Scream “No compromise! No quarter!” and refuse to discuss anything up until the deadline, and then work madly to come up with a compromise that is rushed and half-assed and piss poor.
The current Republican party is a cancer. And like a cancer, they are the root cause of their problems.
Oh, fuck off Ryan. I give you 8 months before the wheels come off
That’s incredibly generous… They’ll be out until the first of the year, so I say…maybe March?
Ryan probably helped negotiate this deal. He is a liar and fraud.
This is how I see it. Boehner is handing Ryan a somewhat clean toilet seat to the throne … Ryan will have plenty of time to shit himself.
So in other words, if you thought it was bad before, just wait. This guy is ten thousand times worse than Boehner
Complete Kabuki theater here…nothing more. Ryan is playing the part in order to distance himself from the necessary cleaning up required before he steps into the role.
This deal, if it goes forward which I think it will, means that Ryan will never have to negotiate the debt limit or the budget while Obama is in office.
And there is no way in heaven or hell that Boehner, while trying to woo Ryan into running so he can vacate the office, isn’t going to have at least mentioned this to Ryan. Like I said yesterday, my money is that behind closed doors Ryan made this one of his requirements to consider the job.
Ironic coming from the guy who did most of the negotiating on the deal that was reached.
But going forward we can’t be doing the people’s business
Exactly. This craven coward’s going to make Boehner seem statesmanlike…
And the politicking continues.
Publicly, Ryan distances himself from the budget deal while privately he fully supports and rejoices. The mess is cleared up before he becomes the Speaker of the House and he can still appear to sympathize with the Freedom Caucus.
the people’s business …don’t ya mean the wealthy people’s business…all others well we don’t have time for them let them eat rotten cake
LOL at the former GOP VP nominee and soon-to-be Speaker playing at being an outsider.
You know what stinks, Rep. Ryan?
For starters you and your fellow Republicans huddling – on the very day President Obama was inaugurated in 2009 – to devise a plan to obstruct and politically destroy him as he set about dealing with a series of national crises;
When you, as Budget Chairman, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor led a 2011 Congressional revolt to reject the handshake agreement between President Obama and Speaker Boehner for a $4.1 trillion debt reduction based mostly on spending cuts – fulfilling a major plank of your 2009 scheme to use the debt ceiling as a hostage at the earliest opportunity;
Driving the nation to within hours of a debt default in 2011, which led to our nation’s first credit downgrade;
Refusing to play a constructive role in the 2011 Super Committee in crafting sensible, targeted spending cuts, which led to the imposition of the sequester’s mindless across-the-board spending cuts which have hampered this country’s fragile economic recovery;
Refusing, as Budget Chairman, to responsibly craft a budget that would draw the support of both parties in the House and Senate, and receive the President’s signature, and instead pandering to the most reactionary extremists of the Republican-led majority;
And now, as Speaker Boehner implements the thankless task of cleaning the barn for your coronation as boy Speaker – and thereby relieving you of any need to exercise any leadership or do any real work – you have the audacity to trash the process that you’ve spent four years perverting into a clown car circus?
This is just the other half of the game. First, Boehner (on his way out, anyway, with nothing to lose) makes the deal. Then Ryan (on his way in, and hoping to survive) makes a big show of complaining about Boehner’s deal. Result: the process moves forward, default is avoided (so the GOP’s business interests are satisfied), but the crazy caucus is momentarily pacified. I’d be willing to bet that Ryan and Boehner worked together to write the script for these comments before the budget agreement was announced.
Two quibbles on your concluding paragraphs, Randy:
-I’ve no doubt Boehner knew this would be Ryan’s public reaction; gotta try to prevent a last-minute mutiny against his ascension to the Speakership.
-He wasn’t pandering to the most reactionary extremists of the Republican party, he’s one of them. That budget was the creation of his ugly Randian heart.
Otherwise, spot-on as usual.
Fair enough, and thank you.
