Discussion: Paul Ryan Holds Moment Of Silence For Victims Of San Bernardino Shooting

Oh gods no! Offering any kind of sympathy to any person in a Planned Parenthood clinic would automatically result in lost votes from the fanatical base they like to keep nice and riled up. Can’t have that, now can they?

Paul Ryan Holds Moment Of Silence For Victims Of San Bernardino Shooting

Because when it comes to doing anything about gun violence in this country, silence is what Republicans do best.

It was a piss poor moment of silence. I am so sick and tired of hearing please keep the victims and their families in your prayers. It certainly rings hollows. They don’t want our thoughts or prayers. They want their loved ones back.

Is it too much to ask for moments of action from our politicians and less silence?

My father was a hard right leaning, NRA (before they went completely to shit) supporting, conservative Christian, and I loved him to death. And even he recognized that guns were too easily accessible to those with little brains or impulse control, and less training. He believed reasonable gun safety standards for ownership were sorely lacking. But god help you if you mentioned “gun-control.”

@Lacuna-Synecdoche The perfect oxymoron is deafening silence, and that’s what these useless people in Congress offer us over and over again…

@Slagathor I had a similar thought. Thoughts and prayers preceded by the moment of silence and then back to doing nothing. They’ve perfected the art of doing nothing while getting paid.

I can relate. I have many relatives who own guns. I’m not sure if any of them are NRA members, but I do know they support proper gun safety regulations. They have mentioned on occasion that many people don’t know what the hell they’re doing yet they can waltz into Wal-Mart and buy a gun. It’s scary, seriously. Kudos to your dad – sounds like a good guy.

Republicans in Congress are never going to care about gun violence in America unless someone starts shooting at rich Conservative donors.

Yeah. Empty gestures and “silence” will really do a lot. Particularly when you remain silent when it comes to passing effective gun safety legislation. Even bare-min. ones like mandatory background checks on all gun sales and transfers just to do minimal due diligence that people buying firearms are not crazy and/or criminal mother fuckers.

“Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers right now.”

Like Carson, Huckbeee, Bush, and the other GOP nitwits “praying” to your imaginary friend, go pound your empty platitudes up your ass. Sideways.

They could give two shits about Ambassador Stevens or the other three men either. They are/were simply props for these scum to rail against Sec. Clinton and President Obama.

… In three or four days.

Here’s a Catch 22 scenario. A member of Congress loses a loved one in a mass shooting. Immediately after that Congress goes to work on gun control and strengthening background not just on guns but on ammo purchases, the latter of which Lt. Gov Newsom of CA has proposed. We don’t want the former event in order to realize the second event, but shooting deaths have to become more personal to these uncaring bastards who look at them and are never moved…

A minor correction…
A Republican member of Congress loses a loved one…

The moment of silence today in Congress will be followed by hours, days, months, and years of silence in addressing the plague of gun violence in our country.

Gowdy’s committee said Sidney Blumenthal’s name as many times as they said the name of Chris Stevens. The names of the others who were killed were mentioned so little as to not matter.

A “moment” of silence is hardly adequate.

What is needed is for the silence to last until and unless someone does something proactive to stop the violence.

If the attempted assassination of Gabby Giffords didn’t make this happen, why would another gun tragedy affecting a member of Congress or his family do the trick?

Of course. Except for the DINOs who are opposed to gun safety and gun control. I’m thinking Manchin, Heitkamp, a few others.

It truly makes me ill at these clowns, what with knowing people who actually knew Chris Stevens from back in his Peace Corps days, and also knew him a little when he first started in Foreign Service. To realize scumbags like Gowdy, in any other circumstance other than posturing for the media, would mock and just as soon spit on Peace Corps volunteers due to their “hippy/pansy shit, real men blow up and shoot shoot people” sort of mindset the seem to live in, which makes me want to scream.

…
That’s nice Paul but what the fuck’re you gonna to do STOP this shit from happening? Prayers are nice but they don’t stop shootings.
What stops shootings are restricting access to ammo and guns. Got it?? It’s not rocket science.
