Discussion: Paul Krugman: Trump Is 'Right' On Economic Issues

Good article. I like H.D-P. Thanks for the link.

Very likely much more centrist, much more reality-based and may even contain some very thoughtful and positive ideas with which to actually help the average American, the disabled and those without means with which to pull up those elusive bootstraps. Dang, just imagine.

There’s a drag towards idiocy on all issues in the Republican Party. Witness Mike Huckabee. As Governor of Arkansas, he was actually quite moderate on economic issues, almost liberal, going so far as to raise taxes (gasp!). Limbaugh and the Club for Fungal Growth absolutely hammered Huckabee on this, in spite of Huckabee being even more conservative than they on social issues. And now? Huckabee’s economic positions are right in line with the rest of the Republican clown show.

Wow, Paul Krugman actually praises a Trump stance and is met with composure and equanimity.

Somebody photographs a Trump hat in Tom Brady’s locker and he is vilified as a bottomless piece of shit.

Nobody ever went broke describing “progressive” posters as mercurial.

That might be because Paul Krugman neither has nor displays a Drump hat as part of his persona.

A hat stuffed in a locker is more noticeable, more influential and more alarming than a New York Times column written by a Nobel Prize-winning progressive voice that praises Trump for his stances on taxes and health care?

Right.

In the long run, which of the two do you think will benefit Trump the most?

I have not heard Trump espouse a complete economic policy, or any kind of policy. A few ramblings about how hedge funds managers don’t pay enough taxes, and the the declaration “I will be a great jobs president” does not constitute a policy.

Ya I think the idiot that would be Trump brings up a lot of good points, the problem is he has no real policy info no real definitive solutions just blabbering and talking shit about everyone else. So far all talk. He can make all the pie in the sky claims of what he will do once in office, but just like all others before him once you get to DC all bets are off. If he would stop acting like such an ass hole I think more people would maybe support him. But realistically there is no way in hell I want this loud mouth representing me or this country.

I was going to post this on facebook to piss off my conservative friends. Then I read it and realized Krugman isn’t giving any Republican a pass, even Trump.

My favorite Trump quote so far is “I will be so good at the military, your head will spin.”

That would explain a lot.

So did the Republican base vote for their candidates who espoused lower taxes on the rich because they believed them then but no longer do? Or did they not believe it all along but voted Republican because of all the crazy stuff-homophobia, need to control women’s bodies, love of war, fear of women, Blacks and Hispanics, really believe that capitalism is like a religion and it was blasphemy to regulate it, and “large government” whatever that meant was a great sin? …Just asking?

Cause if they like and believe what Trump is saying regarding raising taxes on the rich and shear evil of illegal immagrants, then they remain half ignorant.

That’s because you can read, Ralph.

Well, it’s nice we all have an alternative should Hillary disappoint. :smiling_imp:

MY opinions od T-rump agree exactly with Krugman’s, and have for some days now. Republicans are too stupid to read what T -rump says, they are just angry idiots who want to make more money for doing their stupid jobs and think T-rump will hire them. He won’t, ask what T-rump employees make, I bet not more than 200 of them make more than $20 an hour and have benefits.

the economists have been saying this for years, ever since the tax code reductions on the wealthy started causing the huge income gap we see today. what is novel is that trump is the first repug to agree–although there are many billionaires who agree as well because they fear a middle class and lower class revolt and already see purchasing power and corporate profits dwindle. thus, it appears that even the repug “base” who agree with and support trump agree with the “left” that the tax code must be returned to progressively tax the wealthy. that leaves the establishment gop hanging.

That’s it

Trump may ignore rationality and observable facts in many policy areas, but he doesn’t actually do it on economics.

And that’s why he’s head and shoulders above a very low bar when comparing to the rest of the R field.

Trump: “Me a racist blowhard? Yeah, that Krugman is a complete bottom-feeding loser! All he can get is an award from Socialist countries. And he can only get a professorship from a third rate school, not like where I got MY MBA! If you made ME a Nobel laureate and a professor at Princeton, I would make that the best economic university in the Universe! And I would have the university build that wall on the Mexican border for me, and they’d pay for it!”
