Discussion: Pat Robertson Calls Alabama Abortion Ban 'An Extreme Law'

I agree. He also could be looking for some kind of exception written into the ban that would cover abortions for the loved ones mistresses of Republicans and Evangelicals.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I think this is the kind of thing that could actually scare enough white women to either make it a push or slight D advantage with them. I also suspect that when many people claim to be pro-life or say they’re against abortion what they’re against is this (sexist and stupid) idea of women using abortion as birth control. I’m thinking if you were to ask them about specific situations (a struggling couple with three kids who discover the wife’s pregnant or a young teen with a bright future), their opinions on abortion probably become a lot more nuanced. Passing laws banning all abortions and locking women away for a century for attaining one just does not sit well in the minds of those folks at all.

“They tell you that there’s a war on women. There is no war on women. There may be a war on what’s inside of women, but there is no war on women in this country.”

Grampy-pants doesn’t like because it’s not a surefire win in the war to enslave women by controlling their sexuality.

Can we get a second opinion from someone with the expertise of Stormy Daniels?

It probably won’t hold up in court, but it seems to me that in the immediate term it may have a huge effect. It seems to me that for it to reach the court somebody will have to break the law, risk prison time and wait for the case to work its way up the court system. If they lose at the supreme court (not our of the range of possibility), then the person faces prison time for a felony. In order to just challenge the law will take incredible courage on someone’s part.

When you’ve lost Pat Robertson…

Only because he disagrees with tactic, not strategy, he thinks this case won’t pass SCOTUS -

"… It’s an extreme law and they want to challenge Roe v. Wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case we want to bring to the Supreme Court because I think this one’ll lose.”

Is also a Red Herring. IIRC it’s a miniscule number of women who do this.

Only if the Democratic candidates make a campaign issue out of this. If they run and hide from it as too controversial, no.

If you’re too extreme for Pat Robertson, how many standard deviations from the mean of normal human rationality does that place you?

Depending on what study you look at, white women shifted Dem for 2018 (as compared to 2016) by +5 to +9 points. Another 3 point shift and Trump and the GOP are done. This is doable.
