Discussion: Parkland Victim's Father: Gaetz Tried To Throw Me Out, I'll Vote Him Out

Gaetz: “I don’t think anybody, regardless of tragic circumstances, can expect to come to a congressional hearing and take it over with a series of interruptions."

And what about a loud mouth congressman who tries to take over a hearing about gun violence with irrelevant blather about a wall? What should be done about him?

It was Gaetz who was interrupting and taking over the meeting with stuff that was rudely irrelevant. If you can’t attend to the meeting’s topic get the hell out. I’m usually not in favor of intrusive tactics, if the system allows you to participate and have your views heard. But Oliver had every right to complain about this IMHO. These people are advocates for a variety of measures including background checks, and they were in the right, not that punk Gaetz.

ETA: God damn it not to mention that Oliver and the other father had obviously lost children to gun violence. It’s beyond provocative for Gaetz to start saying people would be protected better by a wall. That’s just stupid and cruel, and the entire set of attendees should have shouted him down and had him escorted out.

Gaetz and all the rest of the Trumpass-kissers.

Only a matter of time before Gaetz has his 8th DUI and maybe his Daddy won’t be able to get him off the hook for that.

Anything he can do to get rid of this CPOS (Certified Piece of Shit)
Represents Mugwump Central in Northwest Florida AA (Almost Alabama)
And this
On February 23, 2017, Gaetz, worried about protesters disrupting his speaking at his town hall in Pace, Florida, prepared what his staffers called “the ‘non-verbal town hall,’ reminiscent of a scene from the movie Love Actually. Gaetz printed out part of his speech onto giant boards that he would hold up if he was unable to get a word in.”[45] One of the signs prepared for Gaetz had the words “Professional Liberal Protestors”.[45] Gaetz arrived 30 minutes late to the town hall meeting, where he faced at least 500 constituents crowded into the Oops Bowling Alley. At the meeting he was grilled about his relationship with Trump, his stance on repealing the Affordable Care Act, and his proposal to abolish the EPA. He surprised the audience and got a round of applause when he said, “Absolutely, Donald Trump should release his tax returns.” But he stopped short of saying Congress should subpoena those returns. Gaetz closed his town hall by shouting “Make America Great Again” over roaring opposition from the crowd.[46][47][48]

In April 2018, Politico described Gaetz as “one of the most enthusiastic defenders of President Trump on cable news” and a “proud Trump protege”.[49]

I’m certain that Mr. Oliver would like to reclaim some time to spend with his son.

If I were there with my rolling pin… would have handled it. Instead, his arse needs to be voted out. The commercials write themselves.

Gaetz is a Trumper of the first order. His paycheck depends on supporting Trump and the NRA. He isn’t paid to give a shit about victims of gun violence.

Gun runners would already rather tunnel their way into San Diego or Else Paso, than schlep it through the CA, AZ, or NM desert.

“Interruptions”, Rep. Chickenguts?

You mean like a Republican yelling “You lie!!!” at President Obama during a SOTU address?

As Plucky said the other day on another thread, the animus shown victims of gun violence by GOPers is shocking. You would think the ability to walk in someone else’s shoes for a time would be a pre-requisite for a public servant. You really have to conclude that the GOP is a haven for the most hateful people in the country.

How can I help this POS get primaried? When can I contribute to a comptetitor? Gaetz should be a special project for removal from the Capitol.

Trump puppet! Gaetz is the one who was out of order. Is there a training school for obnoxious? Gaetz and Jim Jordan come immediately to mind. There are a number of others among the GOP ranks in Congress, but listening to those two is like the sound of fingernail scratches on a chalkboard.

I swear in today’s GOP the idea of “God’s plan” for some folks is the main tenet. Oh something bad happened to your child, “It was God’s will”.

Mr. Oliver said the “wall seems to be the solution to all our problems.” That’s only partly correct. Clearly, the wall plus another tax cut for millionaires is the solution to all our problems.

And that is SO reactionary…it recalls the pre-Enlightenment era, when people insisted on drowning in the flood rather than building a dam to prevent it. I guess the anti-modernists, like the poor, we will always have with us…

In 2008, Gaetz was arrested for a DUI, and refused to take a breathalyzer test. He didn’t have his license suspended for a year when he refused the breath test—as Florida law dictates. He didn’t have that refusal used against him in a criminal proceeding. Charges against him were dismissed despite the fact that the police reported that “Gaetz fumbled for his license and registration, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, and he swayed and staggered when he got out of the car.” Gaetz has cited the dropped charges as proof that he was innocent. Between 1999 and 2014, Gaetz received 16 speeding tickets in Florida. (wiki summary)
