This kid was dumb enough to get involved with trump. Dumb enough to brag about his misdeeds while drinking in public. Dumb enough to lie about it to the FBI. I’m not sure who convinced him to show some contrition at sentencing - but we know it wasn’t his idea. I think his honeypot wife is goading him into this behavior and he’s too dumb to see that, too.

ETA: I also very much doubt he can be sure he gave up nothing on Trump. Prosecutors don’t generally share all they know with cooperating witnesses. He could’ve incriminated Trump six ways from Sunday without realizing he’d given up some useful bit of information.
