Discussion: Panel To Advise Trump If Climate Change Is National Security Threat Led By Denier

Would you expect anything less than the worst possible denier to head climate change policy. This is Trump’s administration, after all. Burn that coal, release lead in that water. We need to live with our heads buried in the sand. Remember what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Making life easy for the fossil fuel industry will return us all to the dirty skies and burning rivers of the 1950s. Happy days.

It makes me wonder if anyone really thinks this would be an actual panel that weighs evidence and makes a reasoned advisory report. My guess is that “the base” has been so brainwashed by Fox, etc. that they believe that every decision made in the past 20 years has been deliberately dishonest and deliberately against their interests.

At least as of a few years ago there were alliances forming among various NGOs, including certain forward-looking industry organizations, to see what could be done about this. There’s action on the state level too, and locally as well. But the feds will be out of that action until we can clean house. It’s a tragedy.

I guess if we all would just deny climate change strongly enough - strong denials are the best, most believable kind after all - then it will go away. Problem solved. Witch Hunt over.

p.s. If you have Florida beach property, sell it now - or at least raise your membership fees enough to cover your increased property and flood insurance premiums, with a little sumthin’ for yourself.

Hell, if even the “moderately bad” predictions are correct (and the reality seems to be accelerating in that direction), it isn’t just the beach property. A goodly chunk of south Florida would be underwater, and a lot of the rest of it would be subjected to frequent flooding.

Rent, don’t buy.

I read a book a year or two ago, I can’t remember the name but it was written by a science writer for nyt I believe, that had interviews on and off record w military planners who do the long range war gaming–their expectation of future conflicts was largely fights over fresh water, civil wars following societal breakdowns stemming largely from climate disasters, rescue efforts after hurricanes, flood, etc.

Military planners are scrambling to upgrade the naval bases in the tidewater area of Virginia, as rising sea levels make it difficult to do the work of running a naval base but also make housing for military/dependents
unreliable.

Insurance Companies are factoring in rising sea levels into their long range rates. Whatever denialists and government villains are saying, the people that know are already acting on the assumption of disaster after disaster.

The Water Will Come by Jeff Goodell----that’s the book.

If you have property in Florida it is or soon will be beachfront. Before the water submerges it.

The best defense is being offensive.

This is tit for tat. Hes threatening to officially declare it not an emergency because the House is about to do that to his border wall.

It’s just par for the course in this administration. I’m sure he’ll jump right on proving the Chinese hoax theory…you know, both sides and all.

And don’t forget Putin: he says Very Strongly that climate change is a hoax, so we’ve got that going for us.

No,

Voting fraud commission led by a rabid fraud ideologue,
EPA led by a fossil fuel adherent,
DOJ was led by a racist,
Climate Change led by (who would think otherwise) a denier.

See a pattern here.

What could be better than getting the answers in advance…? This will never end until the Don is out of the WH and residing in a place that more suits his special needs .

You just know that they will back down, agree that it is a threat. Then jump immediately to needing the Wall to stave off the Climate Emergency.
