B, when you’re here, let’s speak American," Palin said.

This Tuesday, the following word will be loudly heard inside a building on First Street.

Thus spake the Godess of glossolalia[1][2]

[1][Glossolalia] consists of strings of syllables, made up of sounds taken from all those that the speaker knows, put together more or less haphazardly but emerging nevertheless as word-like and sentence-like units because of realistic, language-like rhythm and melody.

Um, no thank you–said in about as “American” as possible–but I really prefer more of a Queen’s English-style of English than your mangled mix, Mrs. Palin. Seriously, lady, I usually have to re-read your statements at least once or twice before I can decipher what it is I think you really mean! No. No, thank you.

We can expect this until the asteroid strikes.

Thank you!! Learn something practically every day, if one pays close enough attention. Glossolalia – I will remember this for my next politics conversation with my brother. He used to have the hots for Sister Sarah, back when she sported that librarian look. He never liked her as a person, though, which speaks highly of him (and I told him so).

I suspect what you’re after there is the currently dominant form of Merkin called Derpish, a.k.a. Derpish Merkin, Derpish Murkin, Derpish (with the Merkin or Murkin assumed), or, for short, Derp.

Among FHG/RG Palin’s particular bugaboos has to be how native born Alaskans from pre-European occupation for some reason, seditious no doubt, continue to speak whatever foreign language their ancestors used to speak before they were civilized.

And yet Mrs. Palin speaks a language unknown to others. Except Minions. My grandson tells me they just make sounds and not real words and nobody cares.

 As a Mescalero I guess that means ‘speak like an Apache’.

The crick will rise high before that happens.

Here’s how this will play out:
Late night comics, left leaning pundits, bloggers, Twitter posters … hell, pretty much everyone… will continue to mock this ignoramus for a day or two. Then Fox and Palin’s supporters will fight back with some twisted logic that “American” really is what we speak (remember how they found a few questionable “authorities” to try to make Palin sound intelligent after that Paul Revere debacle?). Fox may even jump on the “Speak American” bandwagon; I certainly wouldn’t put it past them.
Then we’ll have to point out that “American” is, if nothing else, a rich gumbo of words that come from immigrants–you know, those people that the extreme right wing would like to round up and deport.
Ironic, isn’t it?

Palin: Eeemeegrints Shid Be Speakeen Amerikin, Like Me

(TPM Header edited for enhanced phonology).

Why should immigrants have to speak English when Sarah Palin doesn’t?

Which “American” should we speak, Iroquois? Mohawk? Cheyenne? Sioux? Chumash? There are so many.

Palin thinks Glossolalia is a brand of nail polish.

Which American? There are those hispanics south of the border who speak North American, Central American, and various South American dialects, in addition to those north of the border who speak that North American dialect called Canuck.

That won’t help a bit.

They freaking tried to edit Wikpedia to support her nonsense on that one.

But they would have a hard time on this one, considering she corrected herself and went with English at the end of her comments. So even she recognized that she misspoke…which IS kind of news worthy.
