So isn’t this interesting. Almost a million Palestinians are stateless. Where are they to go? Who will give them citizenship?

Attempts to reduce funding to or eliminate UNRWA has been a goal of Netanyahu and Likud for many years. The money for Palestinian relief is a penitence in comparison with the billions that US has pledged to Israel’s military. The Palestinian refugee issue is very complex, far too complex to be fully discussed in a post like this, but tRump is doing all in his power to see that no serious discussion is possible. If tRump and Netanyahu think they can just bully the Palestinian’s to relinquishing their rights, they are unfamiliar with the histories of oppressed people everywhere. This will not work. That said, this is not just on tRump, Democrats have a long history of not wanting to discuss these issues and I suspect among all of tRumps crimes this will not be an issue the Democrats will be pushing. They have been afraid of it for many years.
“Afraid” I suppose is an accurate word, but it is a bit unfair to leave it hanging out there by itself. There’s a lot of pressure on politicians of all stripes not to piss off AIPAC and its supporters. There are severe ramifications (lost political money;lost votes; very bad press - does not support Israel, etc.) to doing the right thing. Yeah, I think Israel needs to be given the South Africa treatment till they come up with rational and humane policies. But to point that out is political suicide in American politics, unfortunately.
You’re right but it was never supposed to be like that. AIPAC represents less than 3% of the American people and those that cave to it make a mistake that’s made over and over again in America. Caving to the wants of a small population of Americans with ethnic links to another part of the world over what is best for the other 99% of us. We did it with Cuba and how did that turn out? How much good advice did the Miami Cuban give us? We’ve been doing it with Israel since the 1950’s and how’s that been working out?
In five or ten years we’ll pay for this, and republicans will make hay about how liberals are weak on national security.
