Discussion: Palestine Slams U.S. "Extortion" After Threats To Shut Down Its D.C Office

Sometimes this administration’s actions are based on policy or conviction, but usually they do stuff because it’s kind of fun to screw people over. It makes the point to decent people that we can’t stop them. Elections have…

At this point, the Trump Administration is so incompetent, and such an international laughing stock, that one has to wonder if both the Israelis and Palestinians are better off without US involvement in peace negotiations.

Has Tillerson been napping again? His lack of international policy experience is stunning!

ā€œLed by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a senior aide, White House officials have been preparing a peace proposal they intend to put forward at an unspecified time.ā€

Unspecified time - not even, ā€œIn about 2 weeks.ā€ Unspecified - as in, ā€œHaven’t got around to this yet and we have no idea how to do it.ā€

I know this because my Congresswoman was a big league Bush bundler, her reward was an Ambassadorship to Liechtenstein, which gave her street cred for having foreign relations experience.

Trump’s administration has been working all year to broker a peace deal that would end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Led by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a senior aide, White House officials have been preparing a peace proposal they intend to put forward at an unspecified time.

Perhaps messrs Lederman and Lee would be interested in a bridge I have for sale?

Donald Trump is such a LIAR. WHAT is the CROOK rally u to.

This is all by-the-by because I have no doubt that the entire Kushner involved push for treaty was a sham and a joke from the beginning: just more Trumpian theatrics designed to distract from the rampant venal corruption, subornation of law, and destruction of democratic institutions the #45 administration is involved in.

Still, I couldn’t help notice amid the wreckage …

...a little-noticed provision in U.S. law that says the United States can’t allow the Palestinians to have a Washington office if they try to ā€œinfluence a determination by the ICC to initiate a judicially authorized investigation, or to actively support such an investigation, that subjects Israeli nationals to an investigation for alleged crimes against Palestinians.ā€Abbas, the Palestinian leader, said in his speech at the U.N. General Assembly in September that the Palestinians had ā€œcalled on the International Criminal Court to open an investigation ...

We appear to have an extortionary provision inserted into law – something I’m sure isn’t unique even in foreign policy – but one that threatens to take away the right to negotiate on equal terms as a means to ā€˜encourage’ negotiation seems a bit counterproductive unless you think you’re dealing with punks on at least want the folks you’re threatening to understand you view them as punks.* Not a way to bring someone to the table if they have any self-respect much less pride that’s for sure.

*punk here being its most derogatory sense.

How do you say this politely? Americans are handicapped by their insularity when it comes to dealing with other cultures and countries. Odd given American culture is the most eclectic on earth. Anti-Palestinian sentiments are American low brow. It’s what you’re supposed to harbor. Israel is good and the Palestinians are bad. Again odd given the Palestinians are fighting the same fight we fought in 1776. Google ā€œworld map 1940ā€ and see what Israel was called at that time. There’s no point in getting into an argument about Zionism or the rights of the Jewish people. They have rights to a modern homeland and they have a right to have it in their ancestral one. It’s how they’re going about it that sucks.

There’s nothing the USA can do to lessen Jew / Muslim animosity. It will never end. But there’s no reason for the USA to enter that fight in a way that pisses off a large swath of the world. Has Holland done that? South Africa? Peru? No they stay neutral and ask for both sides to find peace. But not us. We’ve saddled up with Israel and it’s not polite to talk about why so I won’t.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times: There’s no good guy in the Israeli / Palestinian fight. They both conduct themselves horribly and in ways that guarantee there will NEVER be peace. They DON’T want peace. They want blood. Many world class diplomats have tried to lower the heat there and failed. Jerrod Kushner is a joke of a person to try. This move by the Trump dumb asses will do nothing to rectify that strife. It will do what all our meddling in the Middle East have done: Fuck us over. Kill our young people and bankrupt us. Garner hatred and incentivize terrorism.

It’s American stupid.
