Discussion: Pa. Man Shoots At Neighbor's Home Because Only Way He Knew How To Unload It

Discussion for article #228174

Byrd later told a judge that he fired the gun into the ground because he was unfamiliar with guns and didn’t know how else to unload one.

So much for the idea that current gun safety regulations are sufficient.

I hope they took all his guns away from him. That man is too ignorant to be in the same room with a gun let alone hold one.

The article states he was a convicted burglar, so he shouldn’t have had possession of any weapons to begin with.

They ask a bunch of questions when you buy a gun, things about felonies and adjudicated mental illness and such. But they don’t ask whether you’re such an astonishingly stupid s.o.b. that people literally cannot believe that you do the things you do. I suppose they should, though.

It’s good to know that the NRA will defend, to my death, the right of such people to own guns.

So is he really that dumb, or did he want to shoot at his neighbor, and this was his excuse?

Too bad she didn’t spot the guy shooting at her and shoot back.

It does make you wonder. Even if you’re too stupid to figure out how to get the bullets out of the gun without firing it, can he also be too stupid to figure out to fire the gun into the ground or maybe the air instead of at the neighbor? Of course, something tells me he may not have been entirely in control of his faculties as well.

The burglary conviction aside, there should be a mandatory IQ test before someone is allowed to own a firearm let alone operate it.

If the constitution had enshrined a right to a mode of transportation using guns as the analogy, there would be no drivers exams, no accident insurance, no seat belts, no stop signs, no speed limits and as in the case of gun ownership in America, no sanity.

What goes up, must come down. Bad idea.
When questioned by police, Byrd at first denied that he knew anything about the gunshots. Police then found multiple guns and rounds of ammunition in Byrd’s home.

Byrd later told a judge that he fired the gun into the ground because he was unfamiliar with guns and didn’t know how else to unload one, according to the Courier Times.
America the Proud & Stupid??

So if he fired "into the ground how did the bullets (plural!) hit the neighbors house?
Byrd was convicted of burglary as a juvenile, which would have prohibited him from owning a gun.
I’m not defending his actions, but most states expunge juvenile criminal records when said person reaches 18 - the gun-owning prohibition would end when he was no longer a “juvenile”, on his 18th birthday. So this “fact” may be totally irrelevant; depends on the state and when he turned 18.

Why do you hate America so much? Libbertea! Freedumb! ONLY Amendment there be!

And the result would be, that you need an IQ below 90 before you can buy a gun, right?

Ummm convicted of burglary and did he do the crime…armed?? A convicted burglar and he’s totally not understanding guns yet he has several and ammo as well???
WTF??

Ah, …no…I do not believe this guy’s story at all.
Bullets are easy to remove from a gun.

Only if AAA were as deranged as the NRA is. Which AAA is not. Granted, it is difficult for any organization to equal the sheer lunacy of the NRA.
