TPM really needs to get a handle on the fact that nobody is being called a son-of-a-bitch. It’s being used the way damn is usually used.
Our Prez won’t meet with the Philippine President who has taken to having people who do not agree with him murdered and claiming they were drug dealers or drug users.
Both articles are AP reprints. I agree a clarification is warranted, but it is a holiday weekend. Hopefully tomorrow…
Just in from St. Louis, Phyllis Schlaffly has died. One less vote for Trump amen.
I think that is a bend over backwards to defend Duterte argument. First of all, every language, Tagalog, Spanish, English, has expressions like that which you are saying. Son of a Bitch. So Help me God. Shiver Me Timbers. As sure as I’m sitting here. Duterte used an obscene variant which he knew could be interpreted, gleefully, by his supporters, as calling President Obama a son of a bitch. This is not a cultural interpretation issue by an elitist Western Media. This is sort of like Trump invoking Second Amendment remedies and then saying “Oh no…how could anyone think THAT?”
Secondly, and more importantly in this story, like all of the recent Nouvelle Fascists, Duterte invoked Sovereignty, as in if the US President dares to criticize my human rights abuses it MUST be a naked exercise of Colonial imposition by the country which took us over in 1898 after the war with Spain. This is like Hugo Chavez having the presumption to publicly give President Obama a copy of Eduardo Galeano’s Open Veins of Latin America. As if Obama was totally ignorant and unsympathetic to the anti-imperialist point of view. As if Obama had not read and thought about imperialism when Hugo Chavez had yet to discover the usefulness to his grandiose ambitions of left wing concepts and terminology. Duterte is a bully and a fascist invoking national sovereignty to avoid accountability for his government’s policy of murder.
