I think when referring to Catch-22 as a “dud”, they should perhaps preface dud with “box office”. Because it was actually brilliant and way ahead of it’s time.

Can’t blame him too much. He had lousy source material to work with.
Along with “On The Road,” “Catch-22” is one of the most over-rated post-war American novels.
