Discussion: O'Rourke On Trump: 'I Do Think There's Enough There For Impeachment'

Maybe Beto should have went full-on Kavanaugh on Cruz. I know that I am outraged by Cruz, but then again, I don’t live in TX.

Texas you know you should be BLUE! Vote Beto!

Huzzah… an actual Democratic politician that is not a coward. I think he needs to be protected under the Endangered Species Act without delay.

Sorry folks, but I think Beto stuck his foot in his mouth. Given that it’s Texas, and he needs votes from people who don’t identify as Republican or Democrat, being so forthright on impeachment now is probably not a good idea. And any vote on impeachment in the House–where he won’t be come January–would only be after an intense investigation, which isn’t going to come until after Mueller’s report, if then. The best course here was to kick the can down the road.

Very droll.

Keep kickin that can and saving that powder… it has worked so well for the Dems, hasn’t it? Complete Republican takeover at the federal level and overwhelming Republican control at the state level, but let’s keep following the same failed politics. Keep kicking the can? What a joke…

Bash said Cruz was invited to attend and declined …

… adding, “No, I don’t debate people from minor Ivies.”

A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth – some obvious truth he isn’t supposed to say.

Nice of the AP to provide zero support for the assertion that Beto argued for “relaxed immigration laws”

Don’t go there Beto, we don’t want to give Pence a leg up in 2020. Just Trump twist in the wind for the rest of his term.

Agreed. No need for him to go there. First big mistake.

People may think it was a mistake for him to speak out on some of these issues, but I applaud him for being able to do this. I’m so sick of mealy mouthed politicians that hover in the middle and are afraid to stand up for what is right. I sure hope he can take that seat away from Cruz.

You got it.

It is the enduring common wisdom that getting elected puts everything else second.

Ironically, this is how we end up the party in the minority. Because when Democrats win on a strategy of “kicking the can down the road”, they govern that way as well. That has ended in the past with voters kicking their cans out of office in the next election.

I agree, big mistake. It’s a non-starter because, even if impeached, it takes two thirds of the Senate to convict. Never going to happen with what’s known today. So it’s pointless to bring it up. It’s not meaky mouthed, it’s being strategic, to not go there. Texans might elect Beto if he’ll keep away from shiny objects and try not to alienate people. Just showing Cruz’s face reading Green Eggs and Ham should be enough!

When we talk about kicking, no point in kicking the hornets’ nest, even if you intend to exterminate the hornets later.

Oh, Beto. Think you gave some ammunition to that smiling Cobra Cruz. Hope I’m wrong.

This reasoning is such absolute nonsense. People like those who have convictions and express them without trying to pander to those that disagree. Do you need proof? Look at what has happened to the political party that is too afraid to support their own positions and cower from all scrutiny, constantly apologizing… yes, the Democrats have basically no power. Hopefully the absolutely horrendous advice you give to Dems (which, unfortunately, is echoed by the useless political consultants the Dems hire) is on its way out. It’s sad that the baby boomer generation and older has ushered in such a sorry state of affairs in this country that me and my children will have to suffer through. Wake up old cumudgeon! You ain’t dead yet

Unfortunately, most voters are not as progressive, or ideologically committed as you and I are.
