Discussion: Oregon's Dem Governor Resigns Amid Ethics Scandal

I’m from Oklahoma, moved to Oregon long ago.

A governor is not in the same position as single members of Congress. I also would hope some higher standard would be placed in state officers in places like Oregon. Finally, various state REPUBLICAN officials have got in trouble nationwide. This cry of “double standard” is a bit tiresome.

He forgot what he was in office for: good riddance. Guess what he will be remembered for…

Too sad.

How should this have gone down, Lestatdelc?

Pat Robertson and his fellow pulpit pimps are having a field day over this.

If every politicians actions were given the hard once over, I believe that ethics scandals would be the norm. Its just to what degree that ethics are bent not are they or aren’t they.
Did Kitzhaber commit horrible offenses or just use his position to benefit his woman? Its just the latter it seems and that is wrong and I’m sure that he knew it but he wasn’t gutting his state at the expense of his constituents, he just leaned in and got his woman a job that likely was going to be paid to someone anyways. Personally, I don’t see this as so egregious that he can’t make it right and move on with his elected position.
Politicians don’t have the best reputation from the get, like lawyers and used car salesmen, we know we are getting a bit of a snake because that is what this profession creates and ethics aren’t the total test. Is the guy doing what he was elected to do but sopping up some gravy along the way, then that is the expectation.

Its the degree that matters and there is a difference of what Bob McDonnell and his wife did compared to this, legally and ethically.

Kitzhaber stepping down is due to his own conscious and sense of right and wrong but he is no scumbag. He is not squeaky clean, but which politician is and which wants to cast that stone and be held up to the light themselves?

The investigation should have run its course, and if ethics rules and laws were violated he should then have resigned.

I’m sure you felt the same way about Watergate.

Strawman slain.

No one forced Kitz to resign. That was his choice.

More strawmen reporting to the morgue.

You’re the one who just a couple of weeks ago was all but predicting that this would amount to nothing.

What, do (did) you work for the guy?

Yep. And I was wrong.

Your point?
