Discussion: Oregon Sheriff: Medical Examiner Ruled Shooter's Cause Of Death As Suicide

Discussion for article #241354

Using the Sheriff’s Sandy Hook logic, do we really know? What if the Sheriff is part of a gun-grab conspiracy?

It’s interesting how badly this case destroys GOP talking points on mass shootings.

  1. Shooter was an anti-religion, right winger, not the left wing ideologue they claim commit these shootings.
  2. The school was NOT a gun-free zone, so that had no bearing on the choice of target.
  3. Several students were armed, and did not even attempt to stop the shooter.
  4. A good guy with a gun did NOT take down the shooter, a bad guy with a gun did.
  5. The shooter had a series of issues that would’ve raised red flags, but his guns were purchased legally.

Off topic: Take that @NCSteve …Beat that ass all up in your own house!

Suicide. Hilarious.

The sheriff went on to say “…Suicide? Hah. I have my people checking out the grassy knoll next to the shooter’s car because well if you know anything it’s that grassy knolls are the one thing common to assassinations and hits and well weddings too, but this was no wedding… Blah Blah Blah conspiracy Blah Blah.”

If only the shooter had been instructed to check efficacy of firearms by chambering a round, placing one of the gun against his head and squeezing the trigger FIRST!

Think of all the lives that could have been saved.

I wonder if the Sheriff’s anti-gun control and Sandy Hook truther positions emboldened the shooter to stockpile weapons in order to commit a mass shooting at a school.
Of course I don’t believe that, but if the shoe were on the other foot, you can be sure the gun advocates would come up with some b.s. like the above.

Was it suicide-suicide, or was it suicide by cop? The two are different, by I could see how the far-right wing crazy sheriff would confuse them.

Right-wingers believe heavily in symbolism. So by declaring the shooter’s death a “suicide”, even though he was gunned down by the police (and rightfully so, since he chose to engage them), they believe that the stigma of “suicide” is over him instead of some more “noble” death.

The whole concept of “suicide by cop” reinforces this symbolism.

As always, I prefer to leave the symbolism to the symbol-minded.

Regarding Josh’s profiling piece: This is what’s sad and immoral about not allowing the CDC to study gun violence. All these young men languishing when intervention is possible for both the young white male mass shooter and the inner city gang member shooter. All the wasted human potential - the dead victims, the live victims who live in fear and the potential killers in the wings.

I wish they would find someone else to speak for officialdom. Everything that comes out of this guy’s mouth is tainted and suspect.

So much for the myth that “a good guy with a gun” stopped him.

Better look out, sheriff. Before you know it you’ll be surrounded by Umpqua truthers!

The Umpqua truthers know you encouraged shooters with your unqualified support of gun fetishists and your irresponsible dismissal of Sandy Hook. You are the one behind it all and now you’re trying to cover it up by pretending you sympathize with the families. Oh yeah, we got your number!

How can that town, after this, stomach that fucking gun nut " high and tight" Sheriff?

I imagine the Medical Examiner determined it was a suicide based on the trajectory of the bullet, the caliber of the bullet(s), and type of weapon in possession of police/shooter. I’m sure that the crazy, far-right sheriff hates that he can’t claim his department took out the shooter. It must endlessly piss off the gun fetishizing sheriff that he can’t claim the good guy with the gun stopped the shooter.

Please know that we consider your loved ones to be our heroes. They will never be forgotten.

Yeah, right. They’ll be forgotten as soon as the NRA gives you its “come hither” look and waves $$$ in your face.

Because he’s their kind of guy. I did a search for Roseburg political demographics and came across some eye-opening info on Sperling. Here are two posts that pretty much summarize what the others posted:

This area is beautiful. However, If your rights are violated, or you pursue a legitimate complaint, you will get harassed. The police are only for the rich residents. Politics are far right, and majority of residents are conservative or fundamentalist Christians who avoid the problems by staying in their own world. Grudging customer service, very poor bus service, and the only recreation going to church. If you come here bring your own support system and have your own business already established, as they fight new business tooth and nail.

There are no jobs here and the few that people have they are paid very little. The city has huge problems with unemployment, high school dropouts, drug addiction, and crime. If you’re a member of the KKK, a meth addict, and/or tea party member, you’ll probably feel quite at home here. They recently shut down an elementary school and there’s talk of having school only run for 4 days a week. With the large number of high school dropouts, not sure why the city officials think this is a great idea. People here are extremely backwards (think backwoods, gun-toting, tobacco chewing conservative). They seem to be about 60 years behind the times–this could be due to the fact that much of the population is comprised of senior citizens. Just read over the crime, education, salary, and unemployment statistics if you don’t believe this review. This town is dying out quite literally.

Suicide-by-cop would bolster the NSRA’s bullshit “good guy with a gun” claim.

My feelings also.
