Discussion: Oregon Guv Calls For 'Swift & Peaceful Resolution' To Standoff After Arrests

Discussion for article #245143

“The locally elected leaders and state, local, and federal law enforcement are to be commended for their close coordination in working to address this crisis.”

Crisis? That’s a little strong, don’t you think, Senator? Incident maybe? Irritation? Silliness?

What really bothered me was when the bastards started cutting roads through the preserve land. There was no concern for the damage to the plants, fragile soil profile, or erosion that will take place. Nope. This is the reality of people who claim to love the land, but really only love to claim the land. Steal a loader and destroy a few acres so they can drive instead of walk on established trails. And then they say the land is theirs because they improved it.
The main concern here should be the repair of the damage to and return of the land and the artifacts that both belong to the Paiute People.

Really?? An armed militia disrupting an entire community isn’t a crisis? A group attempting to foment civil war at the financial and emotional expense of that community isn’t a crisis? Well, let’s drop them in YOUR backyard and see how you feel about it then!

please … stop calling them “militia”. Call them by what they are: an armed insurgent terrorist gang. Thanks.

Drumpf has called for family members of terrorists to be killed. What method does Drumpf propose for killing LaVoy’s wife and 11 children?

Tensions must be rising in that building. Would you trust the guy next to you not to do something stupid and get everyone killed. Not me, Id be long gone.

They weren’t that big of a deal and they were treated as such. Calm your (and their) hyperbole.

The remaining guys want to go down in flames because they aren’t “cowards”. I guess they don’t respect the guys that got arrested without any more killings. The men and women inside the building say they are prepared to die.

I think this might not end as peacefully as the governor wishes.

cnn was referring to them as ‘protesters’ last nite…

and it’s revealing how impervious to arrest they thought themselves that they were driving to another community hours away to hold a meet-up.

I really wonder how much longer the feds would have let this drag on had Gov. Brown not placed pressure on them to finally end it. Yeah, yeah. I know the goobers made fools of themselves, and it wasn’t Waco.

As it is, however, they had nearly month to inspire more crazies, the community endured a virtual shutdown, the resource and federal property were damaged repeatedly, one person died anyway (who will surely be held up as a martyr), and the remnants still haven’t given in. Meanwhile, old man Bundy – who started this whole thing – is free to continue as a law-flouting model for terrorists who have his “wrongfully imprisoned” sons and company to look to for further inspiration.

I’m not advocating Ruby Ridge. But this entire operation has the marks of swinging the pendulum too far in the direction of careful.

I think the initial Bundy confrontation was not handled well. I do think this one was.

“I am pleased that the FBI has listened to the concerns of the local community and responded to the illegal activity occurring in Harney County by outside extremists.” -Governor Kate Brown

Yes. White guys with guns who cross Oregon’s border are trespassers on federal lands, vandals, use their weapons to commit felony assault on law enforcement officers, and at least in Ritzheimer’s case total assholes, but some I assume are good people.

The Governor should have added “We will build a wall along our largely rectangular border to keep armed white guys out and make the NRA pay for it.”

That’s the problem with peaceful solutions. They often require patience.
Since they aren’t well organized (as opposed to a well regulated militia), eventually they’ll do something stupid and get nailed for. And prosecutors need charges that will stick.

Also, if more nut jobs come out of the wood work to be arrested, great.

How many are left? Will they allow more to saunter in? I think this is a tipping point, and it’s time to turn off phone service and electricity. End it.

Interesting. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of reporting I have seen yet this morning on what is happening at the actual camp. Last night a statement was released from…I am not sure if it was FBI or local LEO…that they had moved into the camp and were holding it, just looking to snatch up anybody looking to return. Apparently that’s not the case.

I agree up to a point, but you can never be too careful in dealing with crazy armed people. This is the problem: crazy armed people whose paranoia is such they think a Muslim guy who was born in Kenya is President and is trying to take their guns… So the armed part is what separates these guys from nonviolent protestors.

I have no doubt if law enforcement repeats their actions and allows the militants freedom to come and go they will fall for the same trick again.

Because stupid.

I’ve seen (not sources that I know are reliable) that there are 5-6. One of them is live streaming, because of course he is…

I think they’re contained and the fun and games portion of this is over.
