Discussion: 'Or Whatever': Trump Officials' Nonchalance On Family Separations

but the big point is they (the parents) elected to come illegally to the United States,” he said.

That line is getting really old…

Hey district attorney, and Mueller, jot this down.

Trump continues to advocate immediate removal, without an appearance before a judge or other due process, for those apprehended entering the country illegally.

Trump is trying to set a precedent that could make your job a lot easier.

Edited to add this tidbit:

“This great nation can tolerate a president who makes mistakes,” declared Senator Orrin Hatch, the Utah Republican. “But it cannot tolerate one who makes a mistake and then breaks the law to cover it up.”

No, Mr. Hatch wasn’t talking about Donald Trump. It was 1999, and he was talking about Bill Clinton.

I wonder what Senator Hatch -or any Republican senator- would say about the colossal double-down Trumpian mistakes happening right in plain sight.

TPM really needs to drop the AP. The article while seemingly a good rundown, none the less accepts that these people are coming here illegally. That is just plain wrong, many are coming for asylum, and the Trump admin claim that even as asylum seekers immigrants who don’t come to the correct location and cross the US border elsewhere are doing so illegally, is just plain wrong.

But Pence also cautioned: “If you want to come to the United States, come legally, or don’t come at all.”

Problem is Mikey , with the presidunce being in charge , I will not bother regardless .

When you are busy destroying the free world, what’s a few child kidnappings for extortion thrown-in?

I mean caring about that is for people with normal emotional responses and balance.

“There was no system set up beforehand to link families and no plan on how to bring them back together, the officials said. More than 2,000 children were being separated from about 2,000 parents. Religious and humanitarian leaders decried the policy. Doctors warned of serious trauma from separation.”

When you’re using cruel and inhumane practices as a means of deterrence, and to show how tough and strong you are so your base gets all fired up, these are features, not bugs. It fits in with lies about crime and MS-13 and keeping poorly informed, afraid-of-change Americans safe.

The idea is that the people applying for asylum CAN’T enter legally at ‘ports of entry’ because the ports of entry are closed. So they go 5’ to the side and turn themselves in thus these are ‘illegal entries.’ Also they are not apprehended and the thrust of the complaint about ‘illegal apprehensions’ being so high pisses me off.

I’m a firm believer in family systems theory, which says, among other things, that the head of any organization sets the tone for the entire organization. When the tone set from the top is “I really don’t care,” this is exactly the sort of results you’d expect to see.

Leave it to AP to ignore over the part where we’re a party to a treaty that makes it legal for asylum seekers to cross the border anywhere in order to apply for asylum.

Call it what it is: extortion. It was always intended to be used to shake down the parents. Republicans can call it “whatever” they want, but parents and grandparents throughout this country know child abuse when they see it. The Family Values Party is as fake as it is Nazi. Kelly obviously would have been comfortable serving in the Third Reich. His reputation will never be repaired. Neither will that of the GOP.

They want to appear cruel and heartless. This is all about deterrence. It always has been. Trump and Kelley love the outrage, and love the coverage.

Has anyone else seen mention that this plan of separating families started as a test run at the end of 2017?

Where is the paper trail for this state sponsored child abuse?

So answer me this: This policy was stated to be a deterrent for families coming to the border seeking asylum. If it was the intention to advertise this change then how was the word suppose to be spread to Central America? They created this hellhole mess, they separated parents from children, and then the adults had to go through a process before being deported. How were they suppose to spread the word if they are locked up?

Do we want to ask SHS how parents who are deported are suppose to get their parents back? And how deporting children without their parent is suppose to be safe?

Has any reporter talked to the embassy officials af Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador about any of this?

It’s been over 8 weeks and our government officials still can’t draft a policy, coordinate agencies, do a legal review, and have the outcome be what they want.

Every fucking government official involved in this needs to be fired for gross negligence and violation of human rights.

So, with no due process, the people who decide who is or is not in the country illegally are the ICE officers at the scene. In other words, the standard of guilt is “If it makes me feel good to give this brown person the bum’s rush.”

They say: HAR HAR HAR TAX CUTS HAR SUPREME COURT HAW HAW HAW.

I think that’s verbatim from Mitch, but the rest have similar comments.

Oooooooh, you meant in public. That’s different.
