Good.
âAll you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt.â
Statements like that just make me cringe, considering how much time I spend with my candidates honing and refining their specific policy issues and developing larger messaging frameworksâŚfor freaking small town city council positions! (My entire county has about 130K voters, and probably a dozen municipalities that call themselves :âcitiesâ).
Because running for office DOES require more than a coffee mug and some campaign literature and T-shirts.
I love how she let it roll around for a while. It stimulated a lot of conversation on BOTH sides. Interesting.
Yes it does. However, it DOESNâT require more for the media to play it 24-7 and speculate endlessly. I think thatâs what she was trying to say.
I hope people can come in off the ledge now
I think we have all decided we donât need another celebrity Prez
An educated boring policy wonk who actually has an interest in Government will be just fine with me
All you need to to run, and if youâre Oprah.
Now actually being the President - thatâs a whole 'nuther thing.
Itâs not clear from this article if the âitâ she doesnât have the DNA for is running or being. Guess I could look that up, but honestly, not a priority, lol.
Sheâs clearly not presidential timber. She speaks much too forthrightly and directly.
Damn, I was counting on that free car!
Oprah make a good speech. Wow, she must be running for President. The 24 hour news cycle is a joke.
I wish I shared that sentiment with you. I think the American electorate is quite willing to go with another celebrity, ignoring the current situation entirely. In fact, if somehow Trump survived until 2020 to run again, I think the American voters would go NUTS over an Oprah vs. Donald campaign. Policy be damned.
Nor do I get the warm fuzzies that this is a categorical denial. Or that categorical denials mean much at this point.
â[CBS This Morning anchor] Gayle [King] â who knows me as well as I know myself practically â has been calling me regularly and texting me things, like a woman in the airport saying, âWhenâs Oprah going to run?ââ she continued. âSo Gayle sends me these things, and then sheâll go, âI know, I know, I know! It wouldnât be good for youâit would be good for everyone else.â
Cut it out, Gayle. Needless stroking of the wrong candidate is not good for any of us, including Oprah.
I didnât give her credit for being able to control her ego so quickly nor so appropriately.
Oprah isnât stupid, she knows damn well that the Media personality she has cultivated for decades would be left in tatters if she ran.
You donât become a âself-made billionaireâ and head of a sprawling media empire that spans from television to clothing lines to flippinâ microwaveable soup without cuttinâ a few throats along the way.
Basically she knows damn well⌠if she ran, all sheâd win is an incredibly stressful job, and if she lost⌠sheâd lose everything.
Thank the good lord this shit is over. We can finally put âOprah 2020â to rest. The only thing worse for the Democratic Party than continuing to nominate third way moderates would be to stoop to the GOPâs level and nominate unqualified celebrities. There are countless women of color with the experience, intelligence and ability to be POTUS; Oprah is not one of them.
I think the main problem with Hillary as a candidate for many was that she was a she. That was really their big issue.
With Obama, we know what their problem with him was, too.
With Oprah, I believe many right-wing heads would literally explode were she to run, and the frothing at the mouth, clutching of pearls, and rending of garments, endless.
An Oprah run for POTUS is not something that interests me either.
WHY THE FUCK ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT THIS?
If Oprah had run, there would have been never-ending and damaging investigations into her unorthodox private life, not to mention a long history of regrettable on-camera pronouncements. It would have been a shitshow and undermined not only the Democratic brandâas the party of good sense and knowhowâbut also demoralized the hell out of those of us who still believe that our democracy is not an irredeemable farce. Good for Oprah for doing the right thing. In another life, she would have been a great career politician.
Can you imagine being assigned to that research, having to watch countless hours of her fucking show? Makes me nauseous just thinking about it.
