I think there really is a major story here: Not that he said it, but that he didn’t realize he said it. Either that, or he realized he said it, but he didn’t care.
In reality Obama was referring to the 50 states PLUS 7 territories but the jerks that want to make any slip a ‘BIG FKING DEAL’ just go on and on…

Watch the video of him saying it. There’s a long pause in it as he catches himself and says the 7 a few seconds after saying 50. He meant 40 and everyone knows that but some pretend otherwise.
There is still the lingering suspicion that he is Barack Hussein Osama.
Watching the people behind Trump while he was speaking, it seems that either they weren’t really listening to him (a number of them seem pretty zoned out), or didn’t catch it, or thought he was talking about an actual 7/11, because nobody within the camera’s view appears to notice the slip-up.
This is unfair: campaigning is enervating for all candidates, especially one who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Trump fans - if you’re going to claim that Obama thinks there are 57 states, then you also have to claim that Trump doesn’t know when 9/11 happened. If you think Trump just made a mistake, then admit Obama made a mistake as well.
It is beyond stupid how many conservatives trot out the 57 states thing as a sign Obama isn’t smart.

No, he was not. He meant to say 47 and said 57. Honest mistake, but it was a mistake. But it had nothing whatsoever to do with “territories”.

Trump is an asshole, but he is not stupid. He is a showman. Oh, no genius, but he is definitely smarter than Sarah Palin.
Trump’s more pathetically interesting 9/11 remark in this ‘speech’ was his claim to have “helped a little bit”. Witnesses, photos, video?

Just a note to the trolls who like to post on TPM or any conservatives lurking around. Take note of the majority of the reaction here, that this is truly the definition of a verbal gaffe - an honest mistake - and that there are way more important things to be critical about where Mr. Trump is concerned.
Take note of the understanding, the recognition of someone else’s basic humanity, even and especially someone we disagree with. And then remember all those stupid memes and jokes that you passed around about the President using a teleprompter.
