OK, now I know Flake is going to primary rump in 2020, if we all survive until then.
Flake - “It beggars belief that an American president would engage in such a spectacle,” he said. “But here we are.”
And yet you routinely vote with Trump. There’s more to this than just a “spectacle”.
The lap dog barks.
Flake says he won’t vote to impeach trump.
F’s rhetoric is lacking in real meaning.
Rage-tweets in 3…2…1…
“Trump’s use of the phrase ‘enemy of the people’ to describe the media, the senator asserted, echoed ‘words infamously spoken by Joseph Stalin to describe his enemies’ and which were later forbidden by Nikita Khrushchev…”
Too shameful even for Khrushchev.
But not for today’s GOP…
+1. I’m struck that of all the abuses Trump has practiced on this country, Flake chooses abuse of the press. A real patriot has a lot of other things, just as serious and more, to mention as well. You’d denounce it all. So it’s possible he wants the media to take him up as a hero of the American Way and who knows, it might work. Flake might be genuinely appalled, and that’s a good thing. He’s not afraid of Trump, that’s clear. But this fails to impress. More, Jeff. Gotta do more if you want to be in the history books.
Bye Flake. Looking forward to replacing bOth AZ senators with MAGA senators asap.
Yeah, yeah Jeff. Now, when are you gonna vote against him on something meaningful?
I recently read about the “opposition” parties in the East German parliament in the communist era. There were “Christian Democrats,” “Social Democrats”, four parties total. They would occasionally complain about this and that to maintain some sort of façade of democracy but at the end of the day they voted to implement every communist proposal ever given to them.
Strikes me that this is the role of Flake, Collins, McCain, etc. Make it seem like there is vibrant debate going on, and real variation on opinion. But then vote with Trump. Words are cheap; no one remembers them anyway (cf. the old Lindsay).
I agree with hoagie that Flake will primary Trump; probably with full support of the Koch brothers and their ilk. They will squeeze Trump for everything they can now, and will dump him soon for the “moral voice” of the Repub party…
“Enemy of the people” is a phrase from an Ibsen play of that name. The play is actually more predictive of a fascist than a Communist mindset.
Flake is casting himself into the role of “useful idiot”
- Flake is not running for reelection - in large part because of the very high possibility that a fierce challenge from ultra-right Trump aligned challengers would irreparably harm his ‘brand’ -
But he somehow thinks he could garner enough support within the Republican primaries to derail Trump’s renomination? Pretty delusional . - or a total fraud.
If Flake stays in the GOP & scrimmages Trump in the primaries - Flake will be like the Washington Generals - the patsies for the Harlem Globetrotters.
What is 90.7% of the time? Flake’s record of voting for PuPPet’s proposals. He can go ahead and try, but he’ll also be tied to voting for the POS tax legislation.
Whatever, Jeff. You were fine with being his lap dog until it became clear your position was in jeopardy.
Flake,Trump is “Disgraceful” period.
Everything he says everything he does is for him.
Out of curiosity, what has been Flake’s take on Limbaugh, O’Reilly, FOX news, and the Tea Party’s whole “Liberal Media” canard? You know the ref working that paved the way for his party to embrace this whole “fake news” narrative?
But remember that the Russian style authoritarianism is their model at least in the free speech domaine.
I don’t know but he could easily make that 7-10 split. You just say (channelling a red-state pol here) look, many media outlets skew liberal in their outlook, it’s part of their background, and today there are conservative leaning ones too, it’s all good, that’s America for you, and they should all be held to a high standard, and what I don’t like is denouncing any news story you don’t like as “fake news.” We should welcome the scrutiny and if it’s unfair or wrong we can say so, but that scrutiny is part of our jobs, and it helps keep us on track and honest. It’s what the founders intended and I’m going to stand with them on this.
And so forth. Easy-peasy.
