Discussion: Oklahoma House Panel Votes To Eliminate AP US History Course

Discussion for article #233341

So…history class should just be propaganda. Right.

I could understand if these people were arguing that this history course isn’t teaching the truth. But to argue that it’s bad because it doesn’t promote America properly while being honest about the bad stuff is nuts. Are these people simply incapable of listening to themselves? That’s got to be what it is.

They just can’t handle American unexceptionalism.

Come on Oklahoma, we can do better than this. I took AP US History back in my high school days,
The point of AP US History is to learn about all aspects of the history of our nation, both good
and bad, This will be a disservice to our students if this bill becomes law.

Ahhhh the Sooners…I wonder why they hate courses on US history so much…Hmmmm…

Sooners were often deputy marshals, land surveyors, railroad employees, and others who were able to legally enter the territory early.[2] Sooners who crossed into the territory illegally at night were originally called “moonshiners” because they had entered “by the light of the moon.” These Sooners would hide in ditches at night and suddenly appear to stake their claim after the land run started, hours ahead of legal settlers.[1]

Those who ignore history…

Ignorance is bliss…

If you think education is expensive, consider the alternative.

Oklahoma votes to change state motto from “Labor Conquers All Things” to
“Hey! We’re not Mississippi”.

Oh–so now patriotism is defined as refusing to believe anything about your country that conflicts with what you hold to be good and true and beautiful. If the truth were to be told, America the Beautiful would be renamed America the Venal, Cruel, and Fucked Up. I say that as a loyal patriotic American born in the US to a family that fought in the American Revolution. I don’t love America for it’s misdeeds, but for the potential for goodness it has always possessed, and often does manifest. But the truth shall set you free, and nothing is served by attempting to avoid reality by cloaking your children in ignorance and darkness. The study of American History is a battleground of the struggle between good and evil, with good frequently (but not always) getting the upper hand. An unflinching commitment to truth is one of the weapons of GOOD.

Why sure it is! Can’t you see the token pink kid? He’s right there…upper center on the left.

See, even my home state is now entry-gated!

Why? You don’t think there are minorities in Oklahoma? You should read up on Tulsa and slave holding by Cherokees.

One of the many reasons that I moved to Orygun is that the history here is much better than Pokiehoma.

That and Orygonyuns aren’t pissed off all the time.

What a bunch of uneducated dipshits. And to think Oklahoma was the first state to offer universal pre-school. They have certainly failed big time on this one. On the plus side, they now offer AP classes on engine repair, and Southwestern cuisine.

Was it the picture of MLK that tipped you to it?

As in other malignorant (that’s a keeper) states, the folks are encouraged to reproduce and in fact often barred from not reproducing.

I sometimes wonder if the GOPers know how good they have it. They actually live in Fantasy Land, and don’t have to go to Orlando.
