Discussion: Ohio University Greek Events Canceled After Members Write Pro-Trump Graffiti

Are we sure that wasn’t satire? Did the frat boys genuinely and unironically look that childish?

Haven’t been around a lot of frat boys lately?

Ohio University Greek Events Canceled After Members Write Pro-Trump Graffiti

Interesting. While one assumes that most Greeks come from monied and likely conservative backgrounds, historically it’s been from country club Republican families. If they are serious about this, the Greek system is worse off than I imagined.

Of all the groups on a college campus, Frat Bros are pretty much the ones I would suspect of being into Trump’s shtick.

Names. We want names.

Von Clownstick’s young supporters are TERRIFIED people will know who they are.

Why don’t they just paint the word “Fuck” in front of the T-word and call it a day?

Canceling activities seems like an unnecessary response to me. Merely saying “build the wall” isn’t a criminal act, nor is it advocating for Trump a criminal act. It might be dumb, but it’s not criminal.

If the graffiti had said “kill Mexicans” or “shoot n*ggers” or some such idiocy, then we’re in different territory.

Psyker is right though—Trump is the ultimate drunken frat boy/wasted frat girl candidate.

That’s pretty bad when just your name is considered an incitement.

‘they had a very different meaning to some than they may have to others’…BS. Whoever WROTE those knew exactly what t hey were saying…especially next to ‘Trump 2016’ …it is not ‘free speech’. It is ‘HATE speech’ but of course, white privilege rules.

Agreed. The “build the wall” message will hurt some people, but discomfort isn’t the standard to apply here. Not only did the graffiti not target any group of people, but it was painted “on a wall meant for student graffiti” rather than in a location associated with any particular group of people.

The university could have added something to Greek Week – a presentation where those who felt hurt by the wall had a chance to express that pain and share why it hurt.

FOX: Guys, this is freedom of speech. Its fully protected by constitution.

I don’t agree with their sentiments at all, but they’re being punished for writing “Trump 2016” and @Build that Wall"?

If it’s that bad, then how about someone holding the man himself, Trump, responsible??

It really sends a mixed message that we punish these bratty kids while Trump actually leads a major party in delegates and is courted by media constantly.

All I can say about this is that college has sure changed since I was there, which admittedly was too long ago to talk about, but all of these students and their little fee fees getting hurt causes the jackasses to do stuff like this. It’s kind of silly.

There have been things that were way out of line like the gangsta parties and the affirmative action bakesales. But “Trump 2016” is a threat? Well, in a way but…

It all seems much more immature than things were when i was going to undergrad. We knew the immaturity was mostly to be found was in the athletic dorm and we all avoided it.

Frankly, I should be reprimanded for the grammar in my last comment.

“The letter, signed by the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Women’s Panhellenic Association, also said that the students involved would not face punishments.”

“Cut the horsesh*t, son. I’ve got their disciplinary files right here. Who dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the varsity swim meet? Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner? Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode.”

republicans have been using the ‘southern strategy’ for decades, but some troll with funny hair acting like he’s a racist… (I say “acting” because he seems too otherwise comfortable around different folks. as a person of color, my experience is you can’t fake that.) …for votes is a step too far??? it’s the same damn thing republicans always do!

No really, I am shocked because these are:

  1. not our values
  2. not who we are
  3. we do so much (court ordered) community stuff why are you always picking on us Greeks???!!!

Even Hillary voted to fence off the border. This is dumb.

It’s no surprise that frat guys love Trump.
They’re generally extremely well-off through no hard work on their own part.
There is little in life they have ever had to work for.
What few things they can’t achieve by other means they purchase with cash they didn’t earn (e.g., paying for friends).
They are childish, self-centered, and have rarely spent a day inhabiting the world beyond their small, affluent, bro-ish communities.
And they love big, obnoxious hats.
