Describing the GOP as the “party of family values” has always had a strong smell of bullshit. Many examples can be found of conservative politicians engaging in behavior that they crucify liberals for.
One hundred years from now Americans will be studying the presidency of Bill Clinton, the presidency of Barack Obama, and it appears that they will also be studying the presidency of Hillary Clinton. This guy won’t ever be known to his descendants let alone the rest of America.
Intellectual consistency has never been the strength of HO’s campaign.
We know that Bill Clinton had an out of marriage affair with Monica as a consenting adult. It wasn’t right…but it pales in comparison to everything Trump has done.
The Republicans conspired and magnified everything they could dream of on Clinton…and of course like most married men Clinton tried to deny his affair.
Trump isn’t just incompetent…his sexual predation is real and they are just starting to come out and talk. Just like it took years for women to finally come out and expose Bill Cosby.
Donald Trump: more dangerous and worse for women than Bill Cosby and Roger Ailes combined.
The so-called religious right has never been concerned with their own “morality” - just everyone else’s. And not for actual spiritual reasons, but for power & influence.
The only difference between a Christianist / Dominionist and the extremist Muslim clerics or the Taliban has been the limitations on their power in the civil arena here in the U.S. - where for straight people they are largely reduced to scolds. Exception areas being reproductive rights (especially the need to control women) and LGBT civil equality.
Hence we are now reduced to a GOP that argues that a transgender person using a public facility consistent with their gender identity poses a larger risk of sexual predation than an admitted sexual predator and peeping tom who has actually boasted of entering teenage girls’ changing facilities to view them in various states of undress.
And because we, on the left, tend to view sexuality and these matters as adults, we’re able to focus on changing the bad behavior rather than using it as a “moral” cudgel to assert dominance.
What a sad way to waste a life. To try for thirty years and fail. Every. Single. Time.
I just wonder if there’s a deathbed recognition of utterly pointless legacy or if the body naturally glosses over that because it’s too shocking to the system.
In every situation, Bossie simply asks himself: WWRCD (What would Roy Cohn Do?)
Rumors that the Trump campaign dug Roy Cohn out of the ground and asked him to fulfill
what became Bossie’s role in the campaign are surely exaggerated-
Bill Clinton has also been accused of rape and groping on multiple occasions. But that disappears down the old memory hole, doesn’t it? If this behavior is truly wrong, then it has to be condemned at all times, not just when it’s politically convenient.
It’s a profound paradox that Donald Trump’s deputy campaign manager David Bossie finds himself in today.
If concern for the victims had been the motivating factor for going after Clinton’s sexual misconduct then yes, this would be paradoxical.
However That was never the motivating factor though, as the Republican’s that went after Bill that had their own sexual misconduct.
Their motivation was just about bringing Bill and the democratic party down because they were promoting women’s and blacks’ issues and the white males in charge of the Republican party have always been for misogyny and racism.
During the Clinton Impeachment Process it was revealed that Henry Hyde, the Illinois Republican congressman and chair of the House Impeachment Committee, had engaged in a decades long affair with a married woman. The woman’s husband gave interviews detailing how Hyde’s refusal of his pleas to leave his wife alone had destroyed the family life that he and his children had known. Henry Hyde, ironically, had been honored with the title “Knight of the Catholic Church.” Hyde was unfazed with the abject hypocrisy his role in the Impeachment and his Catholic Church honor represented when the affair and its consequences were revealed. He claimed he was being intimidated by the Liberal Press and would never desist. This piece of scum died without ever apologizing to the American people or even acknowledging the irony. On the same House Impeachment Committee there were numerous adulterers, men and women. Roy Cohn had nothing on David Bossie and the folks in the GOP who use him. Then South Carolina congressman Mark Sanford, at the time of the WJC investigations, pontificated about his religious beliefs and how WJC was morally unqualified. He refused to step down as SC Governor when his affair was discovered by the Press, and is now back in Congress. Scott DesJarlais is Exhibit 2 in Republican Hypocrisy and Sexual Puritanism, Ongoing.
I’m really uncomfortable with the way this story minimizes the things Bill Clinton (probably) did. Truth is, I’m not comfortable with the “boys will be boys” treatment he’s gotten, and I’m not comfortable with the fact that Hillary has consistently blamed the women (and herself) for Bill’s sins. I mean, I get why she did; she loves him, and you want to believe the people you care about. But it’s still a tough pill to swallow.
All that said, all this pearl-clutching would have rang truer from the Republicans if they had actually cared about the women involved. But they didn’t. They were just ammunition against a political opponent.
So I’ve decided not to vote for Bill and to (reluctantly) vote for Hillary. (Bc Trump? Are you kidding?) But I’m still kinda pissed at her.
Irony…shame…hypocrisy… These concepts are immune to the Rightwing mind. There must be a reason why Bossie is attracted to sexual deviants…one can only imagine what’s in his closet.
Clearly, the guy is well trained for the job. He knows a predator when he sees one! (NOT)
It’s yet another case of IOKIYAR!
It’s an old adage, but worth repeating: everything, including politics, is ultimately about sex.
Except for sex.
Which is, as HO has shown us over and over again, about violence.
Ultimately, Trump will lose the race because of sex.
And he loses at sex because he can’t separate sex from domination and violation.
“Trump campaign managers Steve Bannon and David Bossie” tells you all you need to know about this angry, tactically incoherent clown car of a campaign.
The liars in the Religious Right talk the Jesus talk but they ALL walk the Ayn Rand walk!
