Guilt can be far worse than anything else–it can even last a lifetime.
MOM…not in front of my friends!
Dated both Catholic and Jewish girls in high school.
Neither flavor of Mom had anything on the other regarding guilt nor shame.

Mrs darr and I are the leftists in each of our respective tribes. Other members are scattered across the spectrum. We generally avoid politics at family gatherings.
I am ever thankful that I come from a long and uninterrupted line of Yellow Dog Democrats.
The only exception is my nephew, who is a Dave Ramsay disciple and as a result is pretty conservative, but not RWNJ style.
And he knows not to bring up politics with his mother, his aunt, or with me.
You are right - I was attempting to be humorous after looking at the picture and remembering my own kids’ expressions. (I didn’t mean to trivialize the effects of negative psychological behavior.)
Most moms I have known try diligently to be positive and monitor their behavior - but that “guilting” thing creeps in occasionally (Edited to add: and we hope our kids forgive us.)
she sounds like an awesome mom. the fact that the two brothers pursued their own dreams only reinforces that, imo.
That was fun. Reminds me of listening to Car Talk (on NPR), when “Click and Clack’s” mother called in to “set them straight” on something. Those were some of the funniest moments in a program that had a lot of very funny moments.
Two things were evident. The brothers love each other. And a couple callers mentioned how rude and bombastic the Republican brother was.
There’s a reason I obsess over sports and that is because both of my parents have drunk the Limbaugh Kool-Aid and its the ONLY thing we can talk about at this point, especially given that I live in St Louis and I am not ok with the police summarily executing or at least jailing every brother with a joint.
