I hope a non-snarky post is acceptable here. There are many terrorist acts around the world, but this one hits close to home. I have Turkish students and colleagues in my department. They are shocked and incredibly sad.
Four months ago, I was on an academic trip funded by a modest foundation in a third-world country who had asked me to visit, so I booked the least expensive flight. This involved Turkish Air, and a pair of 10 hour layovers in the Istanbul Airport. I was nervous enough about terrorism that I waved aside suggestions from friends of using the time to take a quick look at Istanbul.
My cheap ticket did not get me into the Turkish Air lounge, but there were several free-lance lounges, and for about $25, I had a quiet smoke-free place to use wifi, relax and get some snacks. One other delightful feature of the Airport appeared in the duty-free shops. Lots of different kinds of Turkish Delight, and plates generously filled with samples. All good, and the box I brought back was appreciated by my students and colleagues back here in the States.
My condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed.

Some people reported that Hillary was walking through the airport executing Vince Foster. I don’t know. But some people are talking about it. She should be indicted for breaking the laws, because clearly that is illegal. It’s probably a felony and she shouldn’t be allowed to have any guns.
If only Hillary had been able to ban assault weapons this never would have happened.
On the somber side, we were in Istanbul six years ago and it was a completely different place. Very sad.
