The last paragraph of this article says it all.
“There’s no question that there is potential for psychological traumatic injury.”
For Trump, this was a feature, not a bug.
Seriously.
Trying to warn Trump of something sounds about as productive as asking the sun to not set, but it’s good to get this on the record.
The kids were all bad hombre MS-13 recruiters, so crisis averted.
Thanks, Donnie!
When Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) asked officials from the various agencies involved in the family separation crisis if anyone within the administration said, “hey, maybe this isn’t a good idea,” Office of Refugee Resettlement official Jonathan White said he and others did try to sound the alarm.
To which the Trump Mal-Administration responded
They don’t give a fuck - Played well with the base
Blaming their own actions on the parents is a typical abuser’s rationale: See what you made me do!
We who oppose trumpp and his policies are sentient human beings who just know instinctively how wrong and misguided it is to not offer refuge to people fleeing their home countries where if they stayed could be killed, but before they were killed would be subject to horrors we don’t want to imagine. djt has no soul, no feelings, and the base he appeals to with these inhumane policies doesn’t either.
"…the facilities that hold the separated children are “like summer concentration camps.”
FIFY
“It was weird. It’s like telling a teenager not to rape a beehive. We didn’t really think it was necessary, but we wanted to try to make it clear that we did warn him.”
Exactly. I can picture perfectly the vitriol which rains down on the poor fool who decides, or is sent in as the sacrificial lamb, to caution the flaming turd on anything.
Did he order them to make the children drink toilet water, forbid anyone from touching them, and hire abusers as staff? Just wondering.
“DEAD DOVE: DO NOT EAT” <words words words, TPM you won’t snag my comment again>
I came home to my house and found a plate of cookies labelled “Dog Treats Do Not Eat”.
Not as funny as GOB and his dove.
“It’s just like summer camp!” If your camp were located in Silesia, in the early 1940s.
Trump and Sessions should be forced to answer the Senators.
Even if the facilities were closer to a summer camp in environment, NO ONE sends a four-year old to an away camp. Their argument is stupid and physically/psychologically unsound. I’m glad there were some officials who spoke up against it, but they should have been screaming their objections from the roof tops.
“Many parents have made this journey because that is the desperate last act of a parent trying to take a child out of some of the most dangerous places to raise a child in the world,” White said. “Honduras has the highest youth murder rate on earth for any country not actively at war. Though it might be unfathomable why anyone presented with the opportunity to be reunified with their child might say no, it is unfathomable until you have walked in those parents’ shoes.”
This is the best paragraph I have read in the family separation story and exactly why Trump and the rest of his fucking administration can’t be forgiven. They visited real pain on real people in real trouble for a phony political point.
Office of Refugee Resettlement official Jonathan White said he and others did try to sound the alarm.
“During the deliberative process over the previous year, we raised a number of concerns about any policy that would result in family separation due to concerns we had about the best interest of the child,” White said.
And yet you went along with it–You haven’t resigned, etc. Lame at best, unconscionable at worst.
I’m gonna go with unconscionable.
“During the deliberative process over the previous year,"
translation:
“A few hastily called meetings a couple of months beforehand where we got yelled at.”
