Discussion for article #242264

Thank goodness. I just can’t take anymore of the stupid coverage of it

Bad blimp! You should not have run away from home!

…so your mother an I are taking away your smart phone and you’re NOT going out with your friends for at least 2 weeks!

I swear, it was like watching the “Skytanic” episode of Archer where he’s convinced the thing is going to blow up like the Hindenberg no matter how many times they tell him it’s filled with Helium. At one point someone, Lana I think snaps “what part of 'filled with nonflammable helium are you not getting?” And the answer, of course, is “Well, obviously, all of it.”

Grounded. Serves it right for going rogue. Wish you could have done the same with Palin.

Thanks – I knew it had to be Obama’s fault one way or another, but I couldn’t quite work out why.

Josh:

But here’s the part of this I don’t understand. I don’t understand why you would have something so valuable, so big and with so much critical spy technology on board and not have an effective way to control it or quickly bring it down in a controlled manner if it broke off its tether. That seems very odd.

Yes, isn’t it. I think this calls for a congressional investigation, you dumbass republicans.

Our tax dollars at work supporting whom?

According to an in-depth article in the Baltimore Sun about a month ago, this whole JLENS program has been a classic example of a military contracting boondoggle. Army tried to kill it and doesn’t really want it, but it keeps getting funded for political reasons – making it what they call a “zombie” program – massive cost overruns, low reliability, impractical to scale up to a point where it might have any chance of doing what it was sold as being able to do, and on and on. Basically an all-around poster child for an out-of-control military-industrial-congressional complex where too much is never enough.

If the Suns’ summary of the JLENS program is accurate, having a massive blimp floating around out of control for a while was just the kind of publicity that JLENS supporters didn’t need. Almost makes me wonder if someone untethered the thing for just that reason. But Occam’s Razor suggests it was probably just poor design, and/or human error.

Probably that darned BLM Isis collaboration. Can’t say we weren’t warned.

So sad: all it wanted was to rise up free, float off in search of another of its kind, fall in luft, float a marriage licence application before Kim Davis, cast down a deposit on a cozy hanger somewhere, coast in to make balloons & raise them up to be fine young American zeppelins, spend a productive fliegenleben protecting ze luftland, maybe find a dream tether in the mountains somewhere, take early retirement, get a gig on Fox to spend his deflation years gassing on about the gummit … now it’s all gone sssssssppphhhhhhttttttt.
