Discussion for article #225182
Reuters says it crashed in “Eastern Ukraine”. The maps show it is in Western Ukraine.
That it’s another 777 from Malaysia is kind of crazy.
Good grief…
295 people. Horrible.
Here’s the BBC link. Nothing certain but the rebels have been shooting down Ukrainian military planes with Russian-supplied missiles.
What’s wierd is that just like the previous crash, we are going to hear all sorts of conflicting information from sources that have to be taken with a grain of salt.
The Ukrainians and the Russians both will have very different versions of what happened.
OK, this just took a strange turn. Will the missile turn out to be from seized Ukrainian weapons, or supplied from Russia?
I thought it might be something like that. Murderers.
And what possible benefit could the people who fired that missile thought they would gain. What sort of complete detachment from humanity do you need to have to shoot down a passenger plane. And, yes, I remember the Iranian jet shot down by our Navy and thought it was a total abomination when it happened. This is a complete disgrace.
At 10,000 feet, I doubt if they knew that for sure. Shoot first; ask questions later.
The people who shot that plane down probably thought it was military. At 10,000 ft it would be hard to tell, even with binoculars. This would be a blow to whatever cause they believe in. They should be hunted down, that is for sure.
I think its high time to throw every kind of sanction we can at Russia. Its their missile that they supplied. They are responsible. This flight originated in AMS so there were obviously Europeans on that flight. Are 300 deaths worth paying more for GAS???
It was at 10,000 meters not feet. So 33,000 feet.
It had to be. If the plane was indeed shot down as it looks like it was, Russia would be the only country that has that kind of technology.
Update…it was a soviet BK rocket…so that answers the question
That was uncalled for. Have some fucking respect
Not helpful. Not funny.
The Fox News headline for this story: “Obama goes on vacation, while commercial airliners are being shot down.”
That was not a deliberate action, though it was a horrible error possibly due to negligence. US helicopters had been fired on from Iranian boats earlier in the day, and the Vincennes mistook the plane for an Iranian fighter, in spite of the fact that the plane was flying on its regularly scheduled flight path and was transmitting using a civilian radio frequency.
Of course, we don’t know for sure that this also wasn’t an accident; perhaps rebels mistook this for a Ukranian fighter, but they really don’t have any right to be firing at those, either. It’s also possible they were trying to create trouble for Ukraine.
You can bet they’ll do something fucking ridiculous like that.
Meters. Thanks. Even less likely.
