Discussion for article #225225
One assumes that Putin, who is legally culpable for providing these weapons, is going to be the target of punitive lawsuits. The lawyers have a target with very deep pockets indeed.
The difference between the maniacs who downed this plane and the manics who shoot first graders in Connecticut is what, exactly?
We live with this same shit here, in the US, every month.
Different accents.
What no one is saying is that Russian special forces and army personnel are fighting with the pro Russian rebels. It takes training to use a sophisticated surface to air system with the capabilities to shoot down high flying aircraft. Being as the plane had filed a flight path with the Ukrainian government, I doubt they would fire on it. Besides, why would they? The rebels do fly their troops in planes. It is likely a Russian soldier highly trained with the mobile Buk missile launcher brought the plane down.
It isn’t clear that they deliberately shot down an airliner. Likely they mistook it for a Ukrainian military cargo plane. The Soviets shot down a Korean airliner and the US shot down an Iranian airliner, both by mistake. That doesn’t in any way absolve Putin of responsibility, but it isn’t the same as a deliberate school shooting.
I think it was reckless to route commercial flights over an active war zone, but apparently the Malaysians weren’t the only ones doing so,
Listen to the tapes. At first it is high fives all around. Then slowly it dawns on them that they have shot down an airliner. Then they start inventing excuses to make themselves feel better. It was a mistake, a horrible tragic mistake.
Fanatics operating outside of the rule of law, with weapons more powerful than they should have in their possession, engage in deadly anarchy, spurred on by people who profit from their violence.
This shootdown is not a case of mistaken identity, it’s a case of shoot-first, ask questions later. Make no mistake, the Russian government is wholly responsible for the murder of 298 innocent civilians.
