Discussion for article #228908
Iâm likely going to get flamed for thisâŚbutâŚyes, excessive force was not used in accordance to the way the regulations are written since cops are taught to empty their clip/gun of all bullets when taking down a dangerous suspectâŚ
HOWEVERâŚ
This guy should have his backside thrown in jail for killing a man who was not an immediate danger, had apparent mental illness, and could have been subdued other ways. Itâs a very common problem with the police- if youâre Black or mentally ill- they shoot first and ask questions of your gravestone- if they bother to ask questions.
As difficult as it must have been for the Chief Flynn to have done the right thing-- he did.
Heâll likely catch flak for a long time for not circling the wagons in true blue fashionâ
but heâll have the support of his constituent community.
Circumstances and weaknesses make it hard to do the right thing sometimes.
This man of authority, the chief, made a hard choice.
But the correct one IMO.

.
if I understand this story correctly, the cop came up behind the guy and, unannounced, started patting him down. How is the citizen supposed to know itâs not an assault under those circumstances?
If Allen West is any indication, this guy will next be seen running for Congress as a Republican.
SURPRISE PAT DOWN!
We sure he wasnât just trying to grope a guy, and a little rasslin in the park didnât get out of hand?
The took him off of paid leave?! Pretty stern stuff.
Seriously, people get fired from jobs for all sorts of reasons, but cops who kill someone under questionable circumstances make the news when they lose their jobs.
I would be curious as to how Sheriff Clark would react if it was one of his officers.
That too. If anyone did that to me, heâd at least get an elbow in the face, and Iâd want to press charges for things like assault etc. Iâm really tired of cops getting away with bad behavior.
âWeâre not talking that every cop that makes a mistake has to face grand juries and go to jail . . . .â
We, definitely, are not talking about that. I am pretty sure we are talking about every murder caused by a cop is covered up and disposed of as expediently as possible.
They should have to face grand juries and go to jail, and t he âgoodâ cops who cover for them should face the music, too.
This is one of the things I like about my state- unless itâs a very clear-cut situation where force was necessary- our cops are going to trial.
Dealing with mentally ill citizens is what cops are worst at. They are paradigm bound to associate certain behaviors as âcriminalâ rather than eccentric and to act accordingly. With so many ânon-violentâ mentally ill candidates left to homelessness, they are constantly preyed upon, with very few advocates.
Not many Mother Teresaâs around here at dawn with a wheelbarrow to take them to shelter.
Hmm⌠I guess cops are above the part of the law that says accidental breaking of laws is still well, breaking the law.
Iâm not a lawyer or anything close to it, but somehow I feel like if I showed up to court and said, âwell yeah, clearly I broke the law, but it was an accidentâ, Iâd still be fucked.
Shot 14 times? How many times did he miss? He probably fired two magazines at one person. But that is not excessive?
Iâm not going to Flag this, because your stupidity and callousness should remain posted for all to see.
But you would not be able to press charges because you would be dead, shot 14 times and the cop gets off because you âassaulted him during the performance of his dutyâ. (The âGet out of Jail Freeâ card for the police.)
I know. Stuff like this infuriates me. They need to lock this guy in a pillory as an example.
There are people (myself included) who have a severe reaction to being touched by strangers and officers should know better. He was probably looking for something he could steal from the man.
Well, black or poorly-dressed mentally ill people, anyway. Decently dressed crazy white codger waving a gun or other dangerous weapon around, and for some reason the shooting doesnât happen.
