Discussion: Office Of Government Ethics Director Blasts Trump Plan: 'Wholly Inadequate'

I don’t disagree that the content in the folders is mighty suspicious: Papers inside are perfectly stacked, file folders have no labels, etc. Lots of folks are raising concerns, if not outright mocking Trump and the Russian Law Firm of the Year™.

I would argue, however, that Politicus is not a terribly credible source.

As compared to here?

:no_mouth:

I find that the posts at Politicus don’t include first person sourcing, the writers cherry pick conclusions from other published news reports, and the site consistently makes unsubstantiated claims that are framed as truths. YMMV.

It looks as if Trump is just now beginning to learn that there is a difference between being the center of attention on the part of supportive followers, and being in public position that has 24/7 visibility from everyone. And, as of right now, only 37% of that “everyone” likes him very much. This isn’t likely to get better from here on.

I expect that figure to drop - that was before pee pee gate.

I dont read Politicus that often. My mileage with them is that like here, I do not go there for or consider them as a primary news source, but rather, more of an after the fact opinion or interpretation place on particular news events that are already reported elsewhere. No disrespect for TPM intended. I like TPM mostly because of the motley, quirky, eclectic community of commenting readers and members, many of whom surprise me with their knowledge and familiarity with subjects and musicians and books that have been dear to me in my life. But that is just me.

Anyway, The Hill is on record that reporters were barred from examining the Stacked Folder Props. And having lived in NYC since 1977, and been subjected to Donald Trump’s non-stop self promotional sleaze for almost that entire time, I dont think Politicus’ opinion or educated speculation is far from the truth. They probably have less reportorial staff than TPM, at least I would guess that is the case. Of course, Trump could prove the speculated conclusion wrong, just like he could resolve many doubts about his relationship with Russian mobsters and oligarchs (and spies) by releasing his tax returns for public scrutiny. Very impressed by the clarity, thoroughness, insightfulness, and diplomacy of Shaub’s remarks.

OK, I’ll bite.

That’s the thing. It would be nice to think that nobody has the power to shut this thing down, but that’s hardly credible. So if Congress can’t shut it down, then that leaves the Presidency. Nuff said.

I think any effort by the incoming administration to fire Schab would provoke the same reaction from Congress as Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre. That didn’t end well for old Tricky Dick.

In the vein of trying to find a light at the end of this very dark tunnel, I would like to believe that Trump’s unethical behavior will be countered with new laws regarding government officials’ accountability - including the President of the United States. That happened after Nixon and it took Republicans 40+ years to destroy them. Let’s hope that Obama and Holder’s new project regarding redistricting starts to bear fruit. It is the only hope (at least for the near future) of getting the House out of the iron grip of the Republicans.

But also because Presidents don’t normally have these kind of assets. Donald’s got a couple billion dollars (or just several hundred million, if he’s been exaggerating) worth of real assets. It’s not like stock, you can’t just run out and replace it at will. I wouldn’t sell it either, and I don’t think any of us who was in his position would either.

then he should not have run for the position if he was unwilling to adhere to our norms, he doesn’t just get to make the shit up, as much as he would like to, he is just one of 330 million of us, he doesn’t get to make the rules by himself, consequences may not be immediate, but there will be consequences (for all of us), somehow the French revolution has been assigned to the dust bin of history
