Discussion: 'Obvious Child' Is Revolutionary Because It Talks About Abortion

Discussion for article #223631

Do they need a disclaimer in the credit that “no fetuses were actually harmed in the making of this fim”?

Another Hollywood movie taking a pop song for a title to grab dumb people’s attention. Plus a reviewer with the hype word “revolutionary,” as if abortion has never been shown or revealed or talked about in films before.

God, are these people cynical or what? Strictly for the rubes.

So you’ve seen the film then?

Don’t quit your day job; film reviewer doesn’t seem to be an option for you.

Depends what you mean by “need”. There certainly are some wingnuts who seem to think that there’s some kind of multibillion-dollar industry involved in getting women to have unprotected sex just so that the Great Liberal Conspiracy can profit from the abortion fees. And it makes a nice bit of snark.

(I’m older, so not really part of the generations during which abortion has become such an ostensibly unmentionable topic. I can count a handful or so of female friends who’ve mentioned having abortions, many of whom, fwiw, who have subsequently become parents.)
