And der Furor thinks people won’t figure it out. He’s going to get a shock next November.
Trump: Hillary will not win in PA for sure now. Check Mate.
I had an interesting weekend—a friend had a birthday party and I was able to have group conversations in the central part of the state with a variety of people. One guy was a Senate-confirmed agency head under Obama, his brother is a farmer. Both are Democrats, but many of the farmer’s neighbors aren’t. He’s had trouble persuading them that Obama wasn’t coming for their guns. I’ll check and let you know what they think about this. When people are partisans and not really sophisticated about politics they can get it really wrong, but you’d be wrong yourself to think they’re stupid. Folks like that are often very savvy in some ways and sadly credulous in others. I think it’s more that in some things they’re free to see clearly, and in others they have very fixed ideas. Again, I’ll keep tabs on the farmer and his neighbors. If they’re shocked and dismayed by this, understand why and how it happened, and that’s reflected in national poll numbers, we may see something in a year or even sooner. Stay tuned, sports fans.
Well, if people want health insurance that much, they can always skip lunch or cancel their cell phone contracts…

I recall during a 2008 Republican debates a question was asked to the 5 candidates about a hypothetical 30 year old with 2 kids. He became seriously ill and had no health insurance.
Someone in the audience shouted, “let him die!”
Not one of the Republicans flinched.
I feel again compelled to say thank you “Democrats” who endlessly attacked our Presidential nominee after she was the nominee–even up until election day. Thanks for the purist revolutionary meme that your feefees wouldn’t allow you to let go off. That you for not voting. Thank you for feeling moral and mighty for making a “statement” for…whatever you were making a statement for. Thank your for believing in unicorn magic that your revolutionary leader was spouting on about.
And thank you for all the people that will die for your childish behavior because they can’t afford health care anymore. Great job. You should feel proud that your made such a big beautiful statement.
Nothing like “feeling the Bern”.
We MUST nail these FACTS to the Republican’s asses and NEVER EVER Let them (or their voters) forget WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.
Trump and his Republican enablers in Congress are responsible for these MASSIVE rate increases.
Hammer this home in every single ad, every single press release, every single debate and TAKE BACK THE HOUSE in 2018.
I doubt that the Democrats will do this however as they do not know how to fight for anything.
They were told there would be great healthcare for everybody, lower premiums, terrific plan. The best! They were told that Obamacare was the reason their employer-based plans were going up. The worst! They were told that their steel and coal jobs were coming back. MAGA! It was always a con, straight down the line, and now we all get to suffer the consequences.
Ever volunteered?
True are not stupid. They are willfully ignorant though and find it comforting to mistrust, blame, and hate others when it reinforces their stereotypes and fears.
Which is worse? I’d say the second group.
This is how Trump rewards the people in Pennsylvania who voted for him and still support him . He raises health insurance rates by 30% and imperils the most needy people in Pennsylvania, including many in my hometown of Scranton. If they cannot see how he has used and manipulated them ,and now discards them, they are literally too stupid to ever help themselves. Regrettably, Senator Pat Toomey either will be silent about this and of no help to the people ,with preexisting conditions, the poor, and the elderly, or on board the Trump folly train.
I would like to see quantified evidence justifying a 30% increase. Not that I doubt rate increases are justified due to Trumps sabotage, but we are dealing with Health Insurance Corporations whose motivation is profit.
I had an interesting discussion with an acquaintance Trump voter who thought everyone in the individual market was getting the Medicaid Expansion.
Hey, who doesn’t like “1 minute abs”?
The “Bernie or Busters”, their apologists, the #NeverHillary crowd, and the Jill Stein useful idiots are all complicit in everything Trump has wrought. They must never be allowed to forget that fact.
Both I am my wife have been volunteers for Democrats for many, many years here in Minnesota.
We have also put our money where our mouths are.
Both for my local, state, and federal candidates and we worked for the campaigns of both our Congressperson Betty McCollum and for Senator Al Franken. I have written many times here about my discussions with the Democratic Leadership that was brought in from out of state and how disappointed I have been by how out of touch they are with the average voter.
What is killing the Democratic Party is the insistence on bringing in out-of-state “Professional Consultants” who don’t know, and don’t care, about local issues. In my experience their chief concern is “Billable Hours” (this was especially evident when talking to the Hillary people.)
Shouldn’t everyone be calling it Trumpcare now?
I don’t know where that notion came from—nine out of ten people have had their heads stuffed with nonsense all through human history—but I think the big main difference now is the right-wing noise machine. They have a systematized network of information sources that spreads misinformation and propaganda minute after minute, day after day, year after year. Huge part of this. And now the Russians have co-opted it.
The rate hikes will hit those who don’t receive premium subsidies the hardest. Since they leaned towards Trump, perhaps taking the blunt end of it will knock some sense into them. Perhaps.
