Discussion: Obama Won't Meet With Netanyahu When He Comes To Address Congress

Discussion for article #232369

I wasn’t sure what where the Obama administration would come down on such a meeting. This seems (to me) like an appropriate public reason for declining to meet.

Ballsy move.

Bibi should be turning down the invite from Congress, but he is too short sighted and ego driven to realize it.

Netanyahu is a sociopath.

I’m glad he’s not. I don’t personally believe Netanyahu has been good for Israel. Maybe Bibi will realize just how bat crap crazy the right wing GOP is… not likely, since he’s a right wing accelerator himself.

Has Bibi Netanyahoo accepted John Boehner’s invitation? The White House should have waited until he was sure to come here. I think that the decision not to influence an election is an appropriate one that is respectful and fair to all of the people of Israel.

I am sure Bibi is here to raise money from Kochs, Adelson and other rich Republican donors for his own campaign. Bibi will go back used by Boehner but will be richer than before he came.

Boehner has been complaining for years about Obama usurping the authority of Congress yet he feels he can usurp the authority of the Executive branch for dealing with leaders. Asshole. And why in hell is Netanyahu addressing the American Congress? Imagine the hell Boehner would be trying r to aise, or even Netanyahu, if Obama had been invited to address the Knesset by the opposition party?

oh so Bibi has an election in a couple of weeks…

and Boehner…this still looks for all the world like a guy who’s getting somebody to fight battles he can’t win himself.

If only that darn president would just hang his head after his “shellacking” by all of 30 percent of eligible voters like he’s supposed to…right Mr. Speaker

I didn’t have much respect for Boehner…now I have none.

My thoughts, too. It just doesn’t seem like a smart thing to do . He’s dissing Obama.
Imagine Obama getting invited to address the Israeli parliament over the wishes of Bibi.

“As a matter of long-standing practice and principle, we do not see heads of state or candidates in close proximity to their elections, so as to avoid the appearance of influencing a democratic election in a foreign country,”

You mean, LIKE BIBI DID?

Livni should be at the White House that day

Probably was more of a Boehner accepting Bibi’s invitation

Bibi would appear at the opening of an envelope if it would get him out of the country and on tv

Yes, Obama is saying he doesn’t want to inject himself into another country’s electoral campaign, which is hard to object to. Well played, Mr. President.

I’d heart this a thousand times if I could.
LOL. Good one.

We could set it up like the 2012 GOP debates with all the candidates addressing the Congress

and while not injecting himself into the campaign, by refusing to see Bibi he has just placed himself into the campaign. It’s chess not checkers.

Bibi wants a war with Iran, but he wants the US to fight it for him. If the GOP bozo’s in congress can torpedo a diplomatic solution then President Romney, or President Cruz, or President Perry, or fill in the blank, can take us to war in 2017.

Indeed, it was a direct smack to the face of both Bibi and Boner…in the President’s usual clear and clever manner.
