Discussion for article #227352
heās a good man in a shitty job.
Itās not just ādamned if you do, damned if you donāt.ā In Obamaās case, itās ādamned if you are.ā
WTF was he supposed to do ? Anything short of running into a phone booth, changing into a Superman costume, flying over to Syria & wringing that ISIS scumbagās neck wouldnāt have looked good to the press.
I used to think Obama was much smarter than Bush (albeit the other side of the political spectrum) but Iām beginning to wonder. After a first term of literally begging Republicans to work with him (even though they made it perfectly clear they wanted no part of him) he seems to have given up in his second term. When someone gives up they make silly mistakes and faux pas.
JarJarBush: The āWatchis drive!!ā kind of presidency.
He must of known that his detractors will be piling it on over that statement. The fact that he said it shows he does not give a shit.
He had to try, given the fact that he needs to work with them to pass certain bills.
Couple that with people giving the House to the GOP, he had to rise above the partisanship and continually try to come to a common ground for the good of the US. Despite the constant obstructionism, we were able to pass some pretty impressive things, as well as get two Supreme Court Justices appointed and the economy rolling again.
I think his second term has much greater challenges than the first. And yes, Obama is handling it quite well, with an even temper despite the nuts on the right and the constant whiny defeatist āBush is smarter than Obamaā quips from certain factions of the left.
Well people will interpret, reinterpret and psychoanalize whatever he says or what he wears (tan suit, omg)
I donāt blame him for wanting a break from the āliberalā media; I bet itās like dealing with the gossip queens in high school.
Seriously. I canāt stomach the short-sighted, childish questions from any given WH press conference for five minutes.
Talk about gossip queens.
BTW, nice FoxNews-style photo selection on this one, TPM.
I donāt blame him either. I am just saying his I donāt give a shit attitude surprises me sometimes. I actually think itās kind of ballsy, and funny.
Nuff Said:
Teapublicans are mad that heās playing the course and not serving in the clubhouse.
I guess this is what we can expect from Toady Todd at the helm of MTP nowā¦
āBut, butā¦the optics, Mr. President???ā Yep. Real depth, Chucky. āOMGā¦golf, tan suits, and playing solitaire at Stonehenge!!! What were you thinking???ā
UpChuck is off to a resounding yet barely adequate start. Heās just lucky the President allowed himself to go on that show to lend his gravitas to the new MTP host. Without his appearance, Toady Todd as upstart host would have been nothing more than David Gregory level ho-hum news.
Guess thatās what his audience can look forward to in the weeks to follow anyway. If its Sunday, you can count on the Mediocracy of Meet the Press.
I believe he explained himself as wanting a vacation from the PUNDITSā¦who pretend they are in fact, āthe pressāā¦you know REAL journalistsā¦uh huh.
⦠and itās real.
Obama sees the insular depravity of DC and the shallowness of the DC press corps in ways that even Democratic operatives (Carville et al) never will, because heās not a Washington creature. That has itās drawbacks, but all in all it has made him a better president in ways that arenāt always apparent.
Oh comāon - thereās NEVER been a black president in the entire history of these U.S.'s of A. who even took a single second off from presidenting and decidering, let alone taking care of his mental health by getting entirely away for a few hours. This is a truly AWFUL precedent, which in time presents a very real risk that all our FUTURE black presidents will turn into lazy moochers and stone slackers.
The fact is that Obama has had many, many fewer vacation days than his white predecessor.
So Obama gets more flak. Might this have something to do with race? Why is the white media so worked about the first black President?
Duhhh.
I may have missed it but did these same folks criticize Dubya for his time spent in Crawford, TX chopping cedar?
Heās a damned good man. And heās treated unfairly by people who donāt understand his job and donāt carry his responsibility. Compare this āgolfingā optic response to one that happened to GW Bush in which, while on the golf course he said a word about the crisis of the day and immediately when he thought the cameras were off said this: āNow, watch this shot.ā those āopticsā were way worse. No president enjoys the press.
