Discussion for article #228995
Well, there you have it. By refusing to block travel from West Africa, the President has effectively declared that he’s going to personally deliver Ebola door to door throughout America.
We’re. All. Going. To. Die.!!!1111!!!
Hell in a hand basket, in the World According to Fox.
Coming soon on a FoxSpews near you: “SEE? SEE?!? He cares about AFRICA more than he cares about AMMURRIKUH!!! (FUCK yeah!) IMPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!1!!!un!!uno!!”
This would be a good time for old Dubya to put down the paintbrush and assist the President with this aspect of the Ebola crisis…you know, the statesman thing.
If only John McCain & Sarah Palin were in charge. We could have just bombed West Africa flat until all that Ebola had been sterilized off the face of the planet.
Thought exercise:
- Ebola is in Texas
- Why shouldn’t we just seal the borders of Texas?
- Texas is less than a quarter the size of West Africa, should be at least four times easier.
Yeah, ok. But can we cut off Texas?
“…hysteria…”
What Republicans call journalism.
“Trying to seal off an entire region of the world — if that were even possible — could actually make the situation worse,”
and the RWNJ / FAUX imbeciles will ponder this … and amazingly agree … and then simply demand ‘no matter where they come from - don’t let any of the dark ones in!’ of course they will then expand it to include liberal missionaries of any color.
If the very few endangered West Africans with the resources to come here who have not already left their home countries, are allowed to come here legally we can trace them and contact them and impose quarantines as needed. If they cannot come here legally and any do decide nonetheless to come here illegally good luck tracking them.
And cutting normal air traffic reduces our chances of stopping this epidemic in Africa as soon as possible. And if the ebola epidemic is allowed to spread, there will be more and more people searching for a way out.
Net, I’m with the President: Imposing a quarantine, although it sounds good, would cause far more trouble than it would save.
I don’t think the media has emphasized just how important it is for the world to get control of ebola in West African. If the virus spreads there as widely as the WHO says it might, it can easily mutate into something worse, and then the whole world is screwed.
We need to make sure enought resources are sent to West Africa to stop the virus there. That is why a travel ban is stupidly dangerous. The press doesn’t seem to understand that because the travel ban debate sells a lot of soap.
