Discussion: Obama: Trump No Worse Than The Rest Of The GOP Field

Discussion for article #246075

Usually I’m not a fan of guilt by association. But this time I’m ok with it.

That’s OK, considering it was not at all guilt by association.

By far the most interesting commentary I’ve heard/read on the Republican primary candidates. Obama, in his usual understated and thoughtful way, says what the pundit class just can’t quite bring themselves to acknowledge.

He goes on, past the remarks posted on TPM, to talk about the duties, burdens and international perception of the President. It was quite an insight from the man on the inside.

President Obama said Tuesday that although Donald Trump gets the most
attention, the rest of the Republican presidential field is just as bad
as Trump when it comes to remarks that are concerning to the
international community.
…
Sir, you are too kind. Trump is a bully and a buffoon on a scale well past the other sorry candidates the right has to choose from.

Not really. He’s just more open about it.

“During primaries people vent and they express themselves and if it seems like entertainment, and oftentimes it’s reported just like entertainment,” Obama said. “But as you get closer, reality has a way of intruding.”

Great quote by our dear Prez!

But as you get closer, reality has a way of intruding.

Talking about GOP voters? Ever the optimist, that guy.

Trump thinks the Presidency is trade deals with China and not much else. Except for bombing ISIS.

Obama: Trump No Worse Than The Rest Of The GOP Field

Faint praise to be sure, or more correctly, a pretty direct condemnation of the entire Republican field, what’s left of it. But clearly, Trump’s version of the proverbial snake-oil salesman is a world class performance that I seriously doubt the Republican lemmings will reject. They seem quite willingly follow him off the cliff into fascism. We can only hope and work for the rest of the electorate to overwhelmingly reject his siren call and ensure his defeat! Ultimately, that will depend upon the Democrats choosing very wisely in their final selection of a candidate.

Obama doesn’t think Donald Trump will be elected

"Being president is a serious job; "it’s not hosting a talk show or a reality show…"

Given the GOP instinct to do the opposite of anything Obama does, this just sealed the nomination for Trump …
Very crafty., Mr. President :smiling_imp:

.
Counting down until Trump tweets in response to Obama

I half expected the President to casually mention Trump’s baby-soft, tiny fingers…

This entire press conference was another absolutely superior performance by our beloved president, from the first question until the last. President Obama is a one-off, and the mold is forever broken. How I will miss him.

He might not want a 3rd term but I do.

That’s got to make Trump seethe, and it’s a clever and deadly delicious face slap to the idiots running in the GOP primary. And they can’t do a goddamned thing about it, because Obama is now in the IRDGAFFWYT* phase of his Presidency.

It’s just that trump pushes my buttons. I do NOT want to see him in any office. Even as mayor of NYC. He’s a “reality show” host fer crissakes and he wants to be President of the United States? It would be nice to begin with if he had some qualifications and a modest understanding of how to govern before he runs for President.

… qualifications…???
