So many hit songs, too … “The Hating is the Easiest Part,” “Running Down a Dreamer” …
OK, I’ll stop now.

Also, “stay off the pipe and don’t forget to wipe”
You’ve posted this so the editors among us could correct it, didn’t you. Let’s start with spelling. The Electoral College “is” is correct, BEGGOMG is not a word in any dictionary, and the sentiments are not in any thinking person’s head. Fuck off.
Everything you ever need to know (not really) about who Charlie Starkweather was. He and a girlfriend went on a killing spree in Texas in the Fifties, including her parents and half sister, he was executed, she was paroled in the Seventies, still alive after having had several strokes. Movie called Badlands with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek was based on these events.
The movie junkie in me can’t help myself.
Correction courtesy of @daveyjones64: These events didn’t happen in Texas but in Wyoming and Nebraska.
I know-- it doesn’t sound like me either.
I think there are some trolls who are trying to incite generational hatred with such ill-informed rantings. I think most Gen-xers and millennials aren’t naive enough to fall for it.
That was a great film. Badlands.
Larry King’s popularity, I think his show was on for a hundred years or so, is a good bellwether of America’s moronity. I found it unwatchable.
Who would’ve thought an actor who could play a murderous thug could later play a wise and thoughtful president
From an earlier post (and I think it’s mighty presumptuous that he’d even read the manual):
We’re all on an airliner at the gate and Captain Obama is unbuckling his belt and coming back to first class for the ride. He, Obama, just pulled us out of a dive the last Republican pilot got us in, and flew us on for 8 years on one engine to a safe landing. Captain Trump, who’s never flown before, is waiting in the jetway bellyaching about getting on board. He’s already said the tower is a bunch of liberal losers so he’ll take off any which way he pleases. He’ll be taking us across the ocean in a storm and says he doesn’t need to know how to do it. Co-pilot Pence, who’s flown radio controlled copters, says it won’t be a problem. Were all on board and ready to go. In real life would you get off the plane?
It actually happened in Nebraska and Wyoming, not Texas.
Bruce Springsteen based a on them as well. “Nebraska”. (Actually the whole album is one of this best, IMO…solo stuff he did in the basement). Really creepy and powerful at the same time.
“From a town of Lincoln Nebraska, with a sawed off .410 on my lap, through to the Badlands of Wyoming…I killed everything in my path.”
“Sheriff when that man pulls that switch, sir, and snaps my poor head back. You make sure my pretty baby, is sitting right there on my lap”
“They declared me unfit to live, send into that great void my soul be hurled. You want to know why I did what I did? Sir, I guess there is a just a meanness in this world”

This is so well done and I thank you for it. It’s an allegory of sorts, in which virtue and evil are represented by the president in the former and by the incoming orange thing and his fellow thug in the latter. It’s the difference between being humbled and awestruck at being elected president of the world’s biggest democracy and by a blundering fool assuming that he knows it all because he developed real estate all over the world. Our community is grieving and I feel it more deeply each day we get closer to the end of the remarkable Obama era.
Of course you’re right. But facts can be pesky critters.
“Sir, I guess there is a just a meanness in this world”. Man, if that doesn’t sum up current conservative belief and action I don’t know what does.
Big fan of this album. The last song, Reason to Believe, might be needed to get me through the next few years.
Its a tremendous album, from start to finish, and like I said, definitely one of his very best on so many levels.
Shoutout to a fellow Northern Californian!
While I am pulling for my whole country, I sure am glad I live in a sane state controlled entirely by rational Democrats and Liberals.
And how many of your generation got up and voted? Graduated high school? Joined the Marines or protest and march on Washington? Just curios.
Wait for the tweet!!!
I would be careful of going down that path. Baby boomers weren’t huge voters when they were young, either. Even after they got an amendment to lower the voter age to 18…they still didn’t come up in huge numbers. Its the same very every generation…younger people have the lowest turn out of any age demographic.
Again, be careful…the High School Graduation rate has slowly been rising from the time the baby boomers were in HS. Last year it was at 81%, an all time high…again. For the 5th straight year. But the trend goes back to 68, and is particularly noticeable among Blacks.
Volunteering has been in steady decline since the end of WWII. That is why the Vietnam war depended so heavily upon the draft (which we actually implemented in WWII, despite the stories of volunteers after Pearl Harbor). So again, that’s not really something that is Baby Boomer vs. everyone else…it started before them and has continued to slide down with every generation.
There was this event a few years back, you may have missed it…called Occupy Wall Street. And this thing in North Carolina called Moral Mondays. And protests going on right now in D.C and more planned for the inauguration…so much so that they Parks Dept is trying to claim all the public land ahead of time.
All in all, this sounds pretty much like the reason people have a problem with Boomers. Its a self entitled view of the world in which THEY are the only ones that ever did anything.
But you always seem to forget that all those Baby Boomers protesting in the 60s…voted for Reagan in the 80s. And then H.W. And then Dole. And then W. And then McCain. And then Romney. And when the final numbers come in, the majority of Boomers will have voted for Trump.
@darrtown @susanintheoc I’ll join in the mild rebuke to @sniffit. Two kids born and raised in the progressive stronghold of Orange County, California. Both of them, one prototypical starving artist and one PoliSci professor, are the liberal offspring of Boomer parents.
No one could have predicted that a wise and thoughtful POTUS would be replaced by an actor. And a bad one at that.
