I must make a point of watching this interview

Obama will go on Fox News, but not Bill Maher’s show?!?

One is a news channel (nominally) and the other is a comedy show. Also, the drop the F bomb a lot on Maher’s show, and President’s generally avoid that.

Integrity through and through on one side…and on the other…they’re going to wait around to see which way the wind blows in November, before deciding whether to support Garland.

Republicans may think they’re being clever here - but what they don’t realize is that they pay a price for this lack of integrity. This is why they’re own base doesn’t trust them and why they’re headed for a chaotic, pie-throwing convention. With amoral people like Trump and Cruz heading their party.

Maybe Maher could do a 60 minute interview with the President, that way the f-bombs could be avoided & or edited out, that would have the potential to be a fantastic interview.

Here’s a snippet.

This is distressing. His nomination should be yanked the day before the election. Grassley and McConnell rolled the dice … let them win or loose. Saying this gives the GOP a safety valve. They risk nothing by waiting to see the outcome of the election. If the President said he would pull his nomination the day before the election, the GOP Senators would have to recalculate their unconstitutional gamble.

The President is right. If judge Merrick Garland had the sort of qualifications that make him a good judge before the election, he’ll have them after the election. That doesn’t make the stalling and game playing any less annoying, but the point is selecting a good judge, not stacking the court.

That was pretty darn impressive on Obama’s part and, as for Chris, at least in this clip, was fairly respectful.

Thanks for posting that!

LOL, maybe Obama’s worried that between having a Muslim-sounding name and getting a flu shot, Maher will flip out and try to attack him.

Fox News isn’t coy about what they do, and so can serve a useful purpose even for a politician whose base doesn’t watch Fox News.

Bill Maher is a fictional character (loosely scripted by a staff of writers, including the talented improvisational comic Bill Maher) whose defining trait is that he always espouses the most “controversial” viewpoint out of all politically mainstream opinions on a given issue. He’s a much less toxic form of the escaped reality show character “Donald Trump,” or if you prefer, a less comedic (and much less winking-at-the-camera) version of the character “Stephen Colbert” as Stephen Colbert used to play him on The Colbert Report.

I’m not saying Maher can’t be entertaining or influential in his way, just that a politician who’s worried about the dignity of office can’t really go on his show any more than they could Howard Stern’s.

true, but then again, they are assholes, and our President is not. I’m not going to fault him for taking his job seriously and doing it the way it should be done, without underhanded tricks. Just happens to be one of the things I like about him.

What a vomitous idea. Besides being a raving racist POS, Maher is temperamentally unsuited to intelligent discussion. He’s a fanatic about most everything, and has no respect for anyone who thinks differently than he does.

Owee. Owee stop beatin’ on me, it hurtz. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Are you just the tiniest bit opinionated and darn proud of it too? The Prez could let his hair down, especially if he gave the interview after Jan 2017, then the Prez could really show how many fucks he has to give to the republicans. Besides, Bill deserves a bit of consideration for his million effing dollars.
Hope ya have a better day, please to now continue with your irrumation.

The president faced the snake den with courage, poise and wisdom.

While I wouldn’t put it quite so harshly I agree with joelopines. Maher’s show would not be a good forum for the POTUS. A brief appearance on SNL maybe but not Maher’s show. Nope! Humor happens to be one of President Obama’s strong points but Maher is mostly about mean-spirited gotcha humor. I like his show in small doses.

This is a ridiculous give by Obama. How can Repubs defend their position that the president can not nominate during his last year in office, and then suddenly accept the president’s nominee during the lame-duck session in the last 2 months of his office?
