I’m sure Islamic extremist goons tell each other the same thing as Judeo-Christian extremist goons: “You killed innocent people. Our reach is long and justice will be served.” The major difference is in the number and the modality. We don’t publish the video of our murders, and when people like Chelsea Manning leak them, they’re put into prison for the rest of their lives.
Mike Malloy related that Saudi Arabia beheaded twenty-some people in the month of August. They were complicit in 9/11, yet our President Bush held Prince Bandar’s hand, spirited the bin Laden family out of the country while the entire air traffic system was on lockdown, and told us Iraq was the real threat.
Now that we’ve created this situation, we’re being duped into thinking it’s our unending responsibility to fix it. First it was a few advisors, no boots on the ground. Then it was a “humanitarian” mission, only air strikes, no boots on the ground. We all knew that was bullshit – the intention from the get-go was boots on the ground. Now the media is amping up the horror with these admittedly horrific incidents. Of course, our embedded media never showed us the horror of a wedding party blown into ground meat by remote control.
Our foreign policy will never be rational and we will never have justice until we wean ourselves from oil. Until then, we will continue to manufacture excuses that create this blowback, which in turn is used as more excuses to assert our “national interest.” This isn’t about beheading any more than the Iraq War was about taking babies out of incubators. And nothing gets a jingoistic xenophobe war-whooping faster than insinuating that resisting this bait will be seen as our being intimidated. USA! USA! USA!

Not to put too fine a point on it, and with extreme sympathy for the Foley and Sotloff families, they’ll run out of American and British hostages before we run out of targets.

Remember what we did to Fallujah when they hung those mercenaries from the bridge, that really wound down the war. Oh wait…bad example.How about when Chimpy the Decider told them to “Bring it”?
Unlike Bush and Cheney who were all bluster Obama got his man OBL the plotter of 911 and then a few more to top things off.

ISIL can’t provoke our current President the way they did Bush the dumber. They are dealing with a bonafied leader now and one that will put the hurt back on them but in his way, not theirs.
Journalists take risks going into these places, obviously. The best plan for them is to get out and stay out unless risking their own life is worth it and being a part of the story is the plan. The bad guys are getting worse and the war zone is immense. There really is no safe ground there.
