Discussion for article #226525

George W bush Is the vacation president with a total of 967 days in two terms or 32% of his total time in office

President Obama? So far, after 5+ years in office, only 129 days of vacation.

Did you notice that President Obama’s returning to D.C. is labeled “cagey?” Gee whiz, the guy can’t catch a break!

to extend your point, if you take the 129 vacation days in 5+ years in office and extrapolate over 2 full terms, president obama’s total vacation time will total app. 185 days which will be less than 20% of the time that bush took. less than one fifth!

Is this a rightwing clickbait headline or something?

Where ever the POTUS goes the office goes with him. That’s something the opposition never understands.

[/quote] Yeah, he vacationed his way into 9/11. Go party in Texas, and let your dizzy girlfriend deal with the “spectacular attacks” warning memos.

“… for unspecified meetings …”

That’s one meeting I’d personally try to not be a part of. Because if the boss is interrupting his vacation, you can be sure that somebody is going to catch hell!

My bet is it’s a conservative.

It’s sad the president has to take a break from his break. But, considering how much some quarters whine about his vacations, we’ll miss him when he is no longer president. Our choices may be Hillary Clinton and Rand Paul, and we’ll regret the time we wasted doing nothing while Obama was in office.

Until then, I hope the president has time to heal and relax. It’s not his fault the world is crumbling to pieces. He doesn’t have to pick it all up, either.

Considering al the crap he’s had to deal with during his “vacation,” maybe he just needed to take a vacation from his vacation.

“Part of the decision appears aimed at countering criticism that Obama is spending two weeks on a resort island in the midst of so many foreign and domestic crises.”

Yes, TPM, by all means, let’s jump on the bandwagon and wring our hands that "Obama’s taking too much time off/He’s disengaged/He doesn’t do enough/HE DOESNT WALK ON ON F*CKING WATER JUST BECAUSE EVERYBODY EXPECTS HIM TOO!!!

Christ! I’d let Washington just sink into the goddamn swamp it came from if only to cure us of all the mealy-mouthed carriers of “Obama Derangement Syndrome”!!!

Darr, they don’t WANT to understand it…

anything to cut him off at the knees, that’s all they know…

Watched on TV a press conference he gave and he didn’t look too well. The stress of the job has obviously taken a toll on him.

Being president is a very stressful job and I think for President Obama it has been even more stressful.

i agree with you about the article, but it’s an a.p wire service article, not a tpm article. a high percentage of tpm’s weekend stuff is wire service, much of which is, unfortunately, crap.

Some people just don’t get that it does not matter where the POTUS is…his office and communicating ability is not diminished. He is just as engaged as if he was at his desk in the Oval Office. Whoever is the opposition will try to say the office holder shouldn’t go there, do this, or go on a vacation cuz they gotta be “engaged”.
Jebus!
Compared to other Presidents, Obama has taken far less “time off” than others have.
Of course he could settle Iraq, settle the Arab_Israel conflict, cure cancer and do it all before breakfast and still some would say “what took ya so damned long?” As it is the passage of the Affordable Care Act would cause any other President to be thought of in demi-god like terms and his image would likely be on coins and paper currency prior to leaving office.

At least he hasn’t taken up yachting yet.

Rachel has fueled the speculation as to what a return to DC could mean, and she guessed it would be to issue an Executive Order on immigration. That’s probably what’s out there.

But there was all that brush he had to cut on the faux ranch and so many pictures had to be taken while he did it. Can’t do that from the Oval Office.
