I’d rather he’d said, “UP YOURS REPUBLICANS!” but that’s just me.

And just to temper the unadulterated joy, the president and Biden will go to SC today (Friday) to honor Senator Pinckney

“So this was a good day for America,” he concluded. “Let’s get back to work.”

With respect to this Congress, the word, “work”, is approached in a manner that reminds me of Dobie Gillis’, Maynard G. Krebs.

Republicans are still the party who sued multiple times to make it as stingy, crappy and unavailable as possible. So nobody relax and go vote for them now because they lost.

It’s still Thursday back here on planet SCOTUScare.

SCOTUS issued a clear and final decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act ensures that hard-working, middle-class families will get the security they deserve and protects every American from the worst insurance company abuses.

  • Insurance companies no longer have unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny you coverage, or charge women more than men.
  • Preventative care will still be covered free of charge by insurance companies - including mammograms for women and wellness visits for seniors.
  • 6.million young adults will be able to stay on their family’s plan until they’re 26.
  • 5 million seniors will continue to save $600 a year on their prescription drugs.

The GOP should be on their knees kissing the feet of six members of SCOTUS for saving them from their own stupidity.

Through his accomplishments and his example, this man has already left his mark as one of the greatest American presidents, and he will leave a legacy that will last throughout this nation’s history. When I remember the massive crowds he drew, the reception he received by world leaders when he was first elected president, and all the children who get up in their Sunday finest when the President pays a visit to their school, I begin to see the impact he will have on generations of people, as a gentle, caring, brilliant and determined man of courage and integrity who sought to fulfill the promise of America, widen the circle of opportunity for all people, keep hope alive among the disaffected and downtrodden, inspire others to work for meaningful and lasting change, and truly help form a “more perfect union.”

In this time of enormous crisis in this nation, and this world, we are extremely fortunate that this man chose to put himself in the breach, to stand in the gap, and to be a champion against the spirit of cynicism, hopelessness and despair, and to withstand the pettiness, the unthinking opposition, and the virulent hatred of his detractors and opponents with such grace and good will as he set about to repair a nation whose soul had been broken.

In the coming years, we will see statues erected in his likeness, streets and government buildings named after him, and I envision 100,000 children of all races around the world being named “Barack Obama” in the next generation, but I want to remember him like this – as a man of modest background and generous spirit who, despite the immense power and authority of his office and the historic nature of his mission, could see fit to celebrate a long-fought victory on behalf of those of humblest means, with lasting benefits to American citizens of all income levels and residing in all 50 states.

In the tempestuous rush of time, it is easy for us to sometimes miss those small fleeting moments – full of clarity and awesome in their beauty and unnameable stillness – when we suddenly understand what it means to be here on this earth if for a fleeting instant, to dare to burn brightly with a passion to leave behind a world better than the one we found, and be alive in, and to share in, the uplifting and exhilarating possibilities of what could yet be amid this constant, titanic, age-old struggle between chaos and community.

I have waited 40 years for a man such as this to become President, and given the relentless
opposition and the unflinching hatred of his opponents, his term in office can be described as not only successful, but heroic.

For keeping hope alive is the measure of a hero, and the Affordable Care Act has given hope to millions of Americans. And that hope is due to the unrelenting, courageous efforts of this one man who each day bravely and resolutely faces an almost impossible task before him, and who, ultimately, faces it essentially alone.

Your words are sheer poetry and capture the essence of this very good man and the significance of his presidency just when we, as a country, needed him most.

Thank you.

Thank you, jinx. Yes, I am truly inspired by the vision and accomplishments of President Obama. Not only has he had the courage to tackle some of our most stubborn problems – healthcare, inequality, stupid wars, women’s, gay and minority rights – but his leadership style, which focuses on creating partnerships and not on dominating his opponents, is preparing a new generation of leadership.

Yes, change is happening, and hopefully our leaders and our nation can build on the successes that we have made due to the incredible courage, constancy and leadership of President Obama.

He was the perfect man to meet the challenges of this moment, and I am forever grateful that he answered the call.
